Hospitals paying for schooling?
I live in Michigan near Detroit, does anybody live in my area that is enrolled in a program like this? __________________ Kim I am not currently enrolled, but I know that Oakwood Hospital and St. John's Health Systems has this kind of program to encourage new grads to work. I have been reluctant to apply because I do not know the salary and benefits that they offer a new grad. I also do not know the work environment, I may not like the facility.

Bruits and Thrills??
Thanks you all for answering my question. I work in LTC and I have a ESRD patient who has a A/V shunt. I've noticed while charting that bruits and thrills were noted frequently. I didn't have the heart to ask the know-it-all nurse that I work with {but that is another story.} Thank you all again.

Bruits and Thrills??
I would like to know how do you assess for bruits and thrills of hemodialysis access sites? I realize this maybe a stupid question but I am a returning Lpn after many years and do not remember this topic at all.

SQ injections in emaciated pts
Thank you all for your suggestions. The lilltle lady has a dx of bilateral deep vein thrombosis. She was also on coumadin but that was d/c'd . Thanks NurseDennie for the suggestion to use the tuberculin syringe instead of the prefilled Lovenox syringe. It worked great!:)

Feeling incompetent
I am an LPN and I have been out of nursing for 5 yrs and I know how you feel. I work in a LTC, and to ask questions I have found gets you labeled as unknowledgeble at best in my facility. There are a few nurses that will help you, but for the most part there are those that will gossip about you being an incompetent nurse. I hear this being done almost daily where I work. New nurses have quit because of this problem. I have researched common geriatric diseases and brushed on meds. I ordered nursing books from amazon.com that were very reasonable. I have Clinical Skills and drug guides and Fundamental of nursing books. I decided to get my RN and my A/P class has helped me alot with critical thinking skills and nursing assessments. I am not at the level I want to be, but I am working on it. Good Luck
