Have any of you considered working in another area of the medical field - whether you worked there prior to nursing, plan to work there after nursing, considered it as an alternative to nursing, etc.?
I'm still making my final decision to pursue a nursing program. I'm 100% sure I want to be in healthcare. I'm about 97% sure the path will be nursing. But I still have my doubts . . .
Thoughts? Comments?

Thought about dental hygenist. Couldn't stand the thought of looking in a mouth of decaying teeth.....

I'd like to work in radiology or some other diagnostic testing area.

This is what I originally wanted to do, but just focusing on the mouth is boring.. and not very fulfilling.

I really wanted to go into respiratory therapy, but there were no programs close to my hometown. :)

I had considered respiratory therapy also...wanted to become registered and then a pediatric-neonatal specialist

i think it depends on your interests. if you are more investigative you might want to consider becoming a medical scientist (microbiologist, epidemiologist) or pharmacist. if you are more of a socialist type, you might want to consider becoming a therapist. i think nursing can be a good combination of the two. seek some career counseling if you are not sure before becoming committed to a program. might help guide your decision.

Perhaps a hospital around you will let you shadow a nurse, and some other disciplines as well. Some do this.
Maybe theyll let you sit at a nursing station at an ICU or ED which can be very interesting-
