I am Wency, a registered nurse in the Philippines. I recently passed the IELTS (8.5, 7,7,7) and the NMC part 1 competency test which is the CBT. Now, I am preparing for the final test which is the OSCE. I am currently in the United Kindom particularly in Lincolnshire, and I would like to ask you guys if you know a training agency in the UK that provides training or preparatory course for OSCE because I am not confident to take it yet for some reasons that the Uk healthcare system is different from the Philippines perhaps they have different approach in providing care to the patients and etc.
Tuition fee for intensive revision for OSCE is not a problem as long as I can enroll for revision.
Hey can u tell me what referance you used for cleaning the wound with saline? I only see how to dress the wound in the royal marsden, they don't describe how they want us to cleanse it with saline. I know they tell us to do all procedures by the royal marsden guidelines but I can not find in there how to clean the wound, and it doesn't tell or show u in the video they provide on the nile learning. Can someone who had passed please tell me what y'all studied on how to cleanse the wound so I don't fail a 3rd time??
Hi I am nurse in the UK waiting to retake my OSCE after 2 unsuccessful attempts! Just wanted to know if anybody has any tips to focus on bettering the outcome this time.Firstly, the exam is very simple but and only if the examiner is in a good mood, you pass; if not disaster;-) ;-) I was confident when I gave my exam, but looking at the number of people around me who have failed recently I am terrified of what can happen. I say this because a candidate failed because the waste bin's lid was jammed, therefore the foot pedal did not work and the person had to use hands to lift the lid and dispose off waste. After which the person made sure to wash hands and then continue with procedure but still failed at the end of the day FOR THE VERY SAME REASON!!
This is just one of the many lame reasons TO FAIL. The system is pathetic, we have examiners who talk non-stop and distract you from what you are doing and then fail you saying you did not finish in time. IS there any justice here?? We are all nurses with strong backgrounds, training and experience and its depressing and frustrating that there is no logic in any of this.
Another thing, The OSCE signs you as pass or fail in a matter of 120-150 mins; does that mean you a complete idiot who does not know anything in nursing or a wise owl who knows everything?? Alright, if you pass the OSCE, THEN whats the need for having to perform and gain all competencies for each and every skill in the hospitals where we work, all over again?? Can't we be assessed and checked, supervised and corrected in the same ward areas and marked off as competent to work as a nurse instead of having this blood pressure and palpitation causing exam!! This would definitely give people supervising us a clue or two of whether we know anything or nothing!!
As you can see I am frustrated, angry and depressed over this issue. I am a confident nurse who is well aware of what I do each moment for my patients and will remain so where ever I am, but I want justice for the failures we have seen. How can nurses be helped to over come this?? Why is there so much spite and animosity, discrepancy and inconsistencies felt at the Northampton Uni? When it is voiced to the NMC, they say none of our business; ask the northampton.. So if they do not want to know about what the Uni does during the exam why have they been set on pedestal as examiners.. The NMC just does not want to interfere or find out what actually happens there, though it is voiced out..
Wish somebody would do something about this. almost feel like shouting out from the roof top, "Do not come here to waste your time, you rather go somewhere, where they actually need nurses!"
Apparently the shortage of nurses is terrible but do the people at the UNI know that?? Its just like going for a driving test or Friday, only 6 people can pass today, so are you one of them?? inside stories are worse.
Anticipating replies..
Much love to all Nurses -
Remember, let No ONE put you down! YOU ARE THE BEST!!

Hi guys, I am due to sit the OSCE for the first time in the next few weeks and am sick at the thought of failing the exam!! I am trying to stay positive but it is difficult when so many people are failing for silly reasons. For those who have sat it already on the BLS station is calling for help sufficient after getting no response or do you need to say " I will call 2222 and ask for an adult resus team for cardiac arrest in ...." Or are people just hitting the emergency call button after shouting for help? And also is it just the one scenario of bls because 15mins is a long time to do CPR!!
Thanks in advance and good luck to my fellow test takers!!!

Hello! Congratulations for passing the OSCE! :) I have failed my first attempt, too. It was a partial fail: skills. I'm really anxious on what skills they're going to give me for my second attempt. What skills did you do on your second attempt? :)
