Orlando Tech... new here

Published

hi, i just recently joined allnurses. i am currently taking my pre reqs at valencia community college and will be starting orlando tech in the september group. i was wondering if anyone here has attended this school and if you did how was it? if there is any adivce you can give me or heads up you could throw my way i would gladly appreciate it! also, i was wondering if it is feasible to take prereq classes for the rn programs while doing the lpn program. if anyone is starting in the sept group and would like to talk feel free to send me a message.

best wishes to everyone out there and thank you for reading my post!

hi,

sorry for the delayed response. yes i am in orlando tech right now. i did not start in the september group i ended up starting in the january group. the program is tough but definately attainable. if you have any questions or concerns please send me a response.

Yes, that is great for you! I am not sure whether or not to try going to Orlando Tech. What I don't like about them is that they ask for an application fee, test fee. I believe we should first be able to take the test and then if we pass, pay for the app. fee, you know? Well I guess all schools are different. Orlando Tech wants you to take a TABE test prior, is it hard? Well the evening class would start in Jan for me but I still don't know if I will be able to afford going during the day, do to me loosing my job. Well when you get a chance, write back and best of luck to you. Maybe if I pass of course we can meet each other some day. God bless you!

Hi, I currently attend Orlando Tech. I started Sept 07, so I'm almost finished! :D. What would you like to know? School is definetly tough. Taking classes while in this program will be a bit difficult. Maybe nutrition would be that bad. But taking A & P or Micro will be. I only have Micro left to make it into VCC or SCC. We are doing Peds clinicals now, then we do OB and last the Nursing Home to just pass meds. It's flown by, but it's been rough. Feel free to write me back whenever.

Thanks. A&P is not that bad. I am an MA and I've taken A&P I, II. But yeah I'm sure the nursing program is tough and as long as you put your mind to it anything is possible, right?

How are the teachers, staff? Are they really good at teaching the LPN program? What are the hours for the day class like?

hi everyone, i am so glad i read this post. i want to become an rn , but i need my prerequisites and want to go to vcc (valencia) i read on another post that my best bet is to take an lpn course at orlando tech and take some of my prereq while in lpn school then to go to vcc and take the lpn bridge to rn ;which i was told is much easier and a faster way to get into the rn program. i am new to this pre requisite thing. how many classes of pre req do i need to become an rn? can i take my prereques on line? do you reccommend it online? i want to go to orlando tech, but i won't be out in time to pick up my kids from school. is there another program in orange county that the hours are from 8am until 1pm? besides keiser too expensive. i know orlando tech offers night classes ,but i work nights. thank you!!!!

Hi, my name is Angie and I was reading your post. Sometimes we have to make sacrafices in order to get to where we want to be.

I am currently looking into Orlando Tech, but most likely I will be attending the evening program that starts in Jan 09. I too have children and I know how hard it can be, kids, school, work and all the others things on top of that. But if you have family and/or friends to support you, that is great. Unlike me I don't! So I have to rely on my husbands support, which is by far the best support I can ever get. Well best of wishes to you and remember, you can do anything if you set your mind to it. Blessings to you!

Um, about the teachers. Some are great and some aren't. There's one really good teacher. And others where you have to teach yourself. Everyone in the class needs to stick together, that's the best way. One girl was taking this course and anatomy, but had to drop anatomy. It's pretty tough. We started off with 32 people, just lost 2 this week, so now we are down to 19. A lot of learning. I also got a job as a tech at a hospital, so I also learn a lot there. Take care, you can do it.

I graduated from there in 05...I think the teachers were good back then, but most were getting ready to leave or retire so Im pretty new they have an all new staff there now. Lets just say the LPN program at Otech prepared me much more to be a nurse than the LPN-RN bridge at Valencia. The bridge was basically a formality and I dont feel I gained much additional knowledge.

Well maybe just one or two new teachers. Some of them have been there for awhile. I remember talking to you awhile back before I got into the program. How's Valencia? I don't know whether I should go to SCC or VCC. What month did you graduate? Congrats to you.

Valencia was a good program and the teachers truly did everything they could to help us succeed. I graduated in December. Thanks for the congrats! :) I think SCC has their LPN-RN bridge online now too. Im sure either program would be fine, just apply to both just in case. I applied to VCC and Daytona Beach Comm. College as backup. Glad I got into Valencia bc I would have had to commute 4 days a week to daytona...that probably wouldnt have worked out so well. Good luck to you!
