Hey Minnie. how are you? i did not attend Orlando Tech, but i did go through TECO in kissimmee for the lpn course. i hear great things about orlando tech though... i can tell you for sure that you are doing the right thing by taking some of your pre-reqs and getting them out of the way. i will tell you, i battled with two classes while in the program and also trying to work 35 hours per week and i couldn't do it. i failed out 4 months before i was supposed to graduate. my advice to you is to not rush it. if you don't have to take a class, don't do it, because believe me, those other classes will become your last priority and you will put them off and possibly get behind. if you do have to take something, do something easy. i did pass those classes (speech and humanities) but i hated the fact knowing i still had additional work to do after all the major studying for nursing. it's all up to you though. anything is possible!
thank you for your advice and the heads up on pre-req classes mixed with the lpn program.

I went to orlando tech i just graduated in MAY and i thought the program was terrible...very unorganized...the teachers were horrible....and just should not be teachers...for a program that has been around as long as they have you would definately think that there would be order to the program but there isnt. They use the same tests from 1950 so the new books that you have to buy has different info....ahhhh!!!
lol just remembering the agony of that class.....my class started with 30 people 14 graduated....i think that means alot about that teaching....
Thanks for the heads up. I have heard good things about Orlando Tech you are the first to tell me about the bad stuff. I saw the passing rate for the NCLEX was great? Even thought it was unorganized did you think they taught you enough to get you ready for the NLCEX. Also I was wondering if you could tell me how the schedule worked as far as the clinicals and hours and stuff. Thanks so much for the info. By the way are there any other programs in the area you would recommend?

Hello. I'm doing the same as you. I got accepted into the nursing program at O tech. I'm starting Sept 4th. I'm attending the orientation on July 23. I only have one more pre-req class to take at Valencia. Microbiology. I was planning on taking it during the LPN program. I hope it's not too hard. What classes do you need to take?
So nice to have found someone attending the same schools. I am actually on the waiting list for September. She told me to call Tuesday and see if people cancelled. So hopefully I will start with you. I have only taken 4 prereq classes for the RN program. My first semester was this summer. Next week are finals. Could you inform me on how the orientation goes? Thanks for the reply. Good luck.
Hello again. The orientation went well. Got a lot of useful information. Too much to say:o) Let me know if you want to know more info. I have plenty:o) Got some good info about having it paid for also. Keep in contact!

I'm an Orlando Tech graduate (January 2007), and I have to disagree with the previous graduate.
It is a great program. I believe the poster is the class that graduated after me and I remember hearing that class wasn't doing too well. So you really can't go by the poster's post alone. Because our class worked out BUTTS off and only people we lost was due to health reasons, or they didn't have their heart in it (and we lost them in the bfirst 2 months of the program). We had about 17 people graduate and all have passed their NCLEX accept one I believe (she didn't study correctly).
Yes I must say there was some craziness going on towards the end of our program but that was due to having teachers retiring or moving. But other than that the program was very smooth and organized.
The teachers are great and will really push you. If you need help they are available after class or before. Most of your exams are multiple choice and when you get in Pharm there's a lot of conversions you need to know.
The program starts you out with the basics (ie: CNA things such as making the bed, positioning a patient, bathing a patient, etc). And you do this part in a nursing home for one week. Then you are back in the class for about a month before you actually start your clinicals at Orlando Regional Hospital. This is when your clinicals are 3x a week and Classes are 2x a week. And you are start on a Med-Surg floor and you will be assessing patients, vitals, CNA things, and also placing Foleys, trach suctioning and more.
You do your specialties Geriatrics and OB towards the end of the program.
If you have any more questions let me know. There's a couple of us on here that are OT grads and would like to pass along any information. :)

Hi I am planning on applying to the Orlando tech program. Is it hard. I have three kids and I want to be a nurse but dont know if is going to be to hard. Plus I was never to good in science. I did all my pre -req in Valencia and got c's on science courses. What can you do as LPN , I want to work in Ob. How did you do in your NET? I have not been in school in about 6 years.
Hello. It is very possible to complete the course with kids. I have 2 young ones myself. 19 months and 7 months. And they drive me up the wall . I work on occassion, babysitting tourist. I just got a job at florida hospital, but haven't started yet. There's a lot of studying, but very possible to finish.
The net is taken at Orlando Tech. And if you haven't gotten your AA degree then you need to take the TABE also.
I heard the Winnie Palmer hires LPN's that graduate from Orlando Tech. One of the instructors can help get in.
Let me know what else I can help with.
