for all those with orientation coming up

Hi Rena,

I don't know what to accept. I must admit I am a teensy-weensy bit afraid....lol. My orientation is for 4 days from 9 a.m . - 2 p.m. Now what do we possibly have to talk about....lol. I also don't like the fact that I have to go and buy my course outline for Nursing 107. What happened to getting the syllabus for FREE!!!....lol....I'm already paying tuition!!!!....lol. I am excited though. I guess they'll talk to us about the coursework, what's expected of us, yadayadayada.... I do know on the fourth day they asked us to bring a support person with us, a spouse, parent, sibling. The person who is going to be supporting us the most. They are going to have some kind of brunch thingy after the orientation part. And get this, if we don't attend all 4 days of orientation, we forefeit our space in the Fall 2002 class...yikes!!! Let us know how your orientation goes.

Hey Fatima.. I like the whole bring a support person brunch thing... I think it is a good idea.. :) Sounds like you will probably get a pretty thorough Orientation.. Let us know how it goes.. :)

PS>> I also thought it was bad that we had to pay for a syllabus, but when I saw how much paper they used I completely understood :lol:

I start in August also and the school is having a welcome BBQ for us. I think that's a nice, informal way to mingle and meet people. I would like to have some info passed out or discussed about good test-taking skills as I have heard that nursing tests are unique! While I want to know what to expect, I also don't want to hear a long lecture on how hard it's going to be and that I'll be lucky to make it. I think we'll find that out soon enough. A nice welcome and a positive orientation will do alot to make me feel good. Good luck with your orientation and I wish all of the new students a great first semester!:)

a barbeque, that's nice! i will have my orientation on monday and will let you know how it goes.

Any information at all will be a big improvement over what I know now! I am hoping a scholarship will fall from the sky and land in my lap on orientation day:)

thank you all for your replies. :) i shall try to organize something that is uplifting and provides some realistic information to the incoming students.

they will get the need to know information from the instructors. i'm hoping what we, the SNA, can provide are helpful tips on how to survive nursing school with the least amount of stress.

I start an ADN program Sep. 2 and I have a 2 day orientation in the 3rd week of August. The second day of orientation there is a pizza party thing that we can bring our families to.

I called to get a little more info and found out that the syllabus pack costs $300:eek: !!! I really hope there's more than just paper in there.

I heard from another student that part of the orientation is a sort of job fair were hospitals come and try to get you to work for them after you graduate by showing off their sign-on bonuses etc.

I am so excited about starting school I can hardly stand it!!!:) (I'm sure this will wear off after I see the syllabus at orientation:p )

I start my ADN program on Sept. 2nd. We had an orientaion day in June. We are to have our formal orientation day on the first day of classes. In June we got all of the paper work that we had to fill out, for shots, clearences, and fitted for our uniforms etc. The dean made a very positive speach about how we were all individually hand selected and she expected to see each and every one of us on graduation.

I think that the bring a support person is a wonderful idea. Some of our supporters have no idea what we will be going through. I remembeer in H.S. that we used to have cheerleading camp, football camp, etc. It would be great to have the week or a few days b4 school to have a Nursing student camp. It would be great to meet everyone, and have games, prizes and info. passed out to us. It would also be nice to have speakers this week from the last class and someone who has been an RN for a long time. I don't feel that My 1 day in June and on the first day of classes is enough.

:roll haha I hear you on that Kim. I'm still hoping that some rich old lady would like to become my benefactor. You know, I could go over to her house once a week and read to her, and she sends me to nursing school!
