ok I know there are lots of posts about this but I have a question anyway. What do you suggest to use for keeping notes in class? Do you use 3 ring binders and loose leaf paper or spiral notebooks? I like to take notes in class and re-write them at night..it helps me learn them better. What has worked best for you guys? Do you have any other organizational tips? Thanks in advance yall.

I like 3 ring binders, that way if there are handouts I can put them with my notes...spiral notebooks make a mess, I think. And then you need folders for your handouts/diagrams/charts...a binders works best. You can take things out and put more paper in when needed. That worked well for me before. The school I was attending did power point presentations in class, so I could just print the slides, take notes right on it, do a 3 hole punch and put it right in...

I'm the same way. I like a 3 ring binder so I can add all the handouts to it.

I also type my notes at night as we go along in lecture from my lecture notes.

It helps me review the lecture too.

A 3-ring binder, a 3-hole punch, and alot of little tabs to label everything were all lifesavers for me!!!

Go for the 3 ring binder. This year alone, I went through 4 of them. Mine are the 3 inch wide ones. I put all my handouts and notes in them. I do not bring the binder to class. For class, I bring an "All purpose planning contractor" notebook pad to class. Those look like a big steno pad with the wire at the top. It has a date & page spot at the top, on the left side there is a 3 inch wide blank space running down the entire side (I go back and use that to reference page numbers and to fill in missing info), and on the right side it is lined. These notebooks work wonderful for me. :) If my notes are complete and good, I simply punch a hole in them and insert them into the binder.

Also, invest in one of those clear plastic shoebox type containers for your index cards. I also got a index card binder that I use for the current batch of note cards. The "old" card get wrapped with an elastic and put in the box.

Three ring binder. I got the one that have the zipper around it to close it all up and then bought a pencil/pen holder that had the 3-ring holes in it. Could put a lot of stuff in there besides the pens, pencils, highlighters. Also in the binder there were different sized slots for stuff--calculator, PDA, hospital ID badge, packages of Advil..most important! :chuckle

Yep, three ring binder here. But don't buy the cheapos...they don't last long when you are toting it around everywhere with you. Get the good ones...they are worth it!

You can go to the copy centre of your school and get them to use the binding machine that puts the little, rectangular holes along the side of the page. Then they put the binder coil on and voila! Looks professional and is not as chunky as a binder. Or, you can go to the office supply store and get your own binding machine and do it yourself. Then you can have just the current notes on you, and file away the ones you don't need that week. And any handouts can be easily incorprated into the notes.
