Hi everyone. I am currently enrolled in a master's entry nursing program in Arizona. It doesn't have a specialty and is basically a BSN with master's requirements attached. I don't graduate until August, but I am planning ahead. I am moving back to Oregon. I'm not super picky about the location, but would ideally like to be in/around Portland or in Vancouver.
Has any new grad managed to land a job at a hospital without completing a nurse residency program? My issue is that since my program ends in August, rather than December or June, I would miss the August cohort and would have to wait until February for the next one. I think I could probably land a position in a SNF/LTC, but I am hoping to be able to start out in acute care.

Our hospital has rolling enrollment in the residency program. Basically, a cohort starts once a month for several months. Maybe other facilities are like that as well.

I know of new grads who have started at OHSU without any sort of residency, and the VA hires new grads. I work at the VA and really enjoy it.
I love your username. Iron and Wine?

I'm in the same boat! My program graduated in September. Salem Health has a residency that starts in October.r I know some from my cohort who started with them and LOVE IT THERE!! Although the commute from portland obviously sucks. I think that Peace Health has a cohort that starts in January. Otherwise, OHSU doesn't require a residency. Providence & Legacy both do. I just accepted a residency position today and I'm toughing it out until February. Thankfully my student loans aren't due until March and I have an amazing and supportive partner.

I am in same boat as residencies start in August and we may arrive in June. want ER or ICU /cardiac areas. Have been EMT for 37 yrs and sleep lab for 35.
Thanks for info in advance.

I started at OHSU in the fall after completing an ABSN here in town. My floor and a lot of others are hiring lots of new grads without internship/residency. I've even heard that one of the floors on certain nights the only experienced nurse is charge while the rest are
