Hi,

I can’t find a thread for this program so figured I would start one. I was wondering if anyone has got a confirmation their application was received?

I wouldn't worry too much about the Compass trainings. I've done many of them already as an OHSU employee and they're not too time consuming!

No approval on the facebook group yet. That will be a nice tool once we are approved.

I was sent the wrong facebook link, it was “OHSU SoN New Students 2019.” I searched FB for “OHSU SoN New Students 2020,” requested to be added, and was accepted the next day. Hopefully that helps someone else!

Specializes in BS Chemistry.

Agreed 100%. The housing shortage is insanity. And the Valley might not have traffic, but Ashland at 4 pm in June certainly has a lack of parking and a mass of pedestrians. Okay maybe not this June.... I used to live in Ashland and it was way better than living in Medford. Very walkable, and much more pleasant to walk than Medford. I cycle commute and it's quite easy if you live in Ashland or just outside of Ashland. I moved because my partner works in white city, which was a very long commute.

@kangaroo My friend lived in SOU housing and likes it, plus it's pretty cheap. Hard to say if it will be available for the Summer though, when so many colleges are telling students to leave campus

Oh, yes... how could I forget all of Ashland's pedestrians! Though, with the parking scarcity and walkability, who can blame them? I feel ya on Medford's lack of walkability; it looks more like a sprawling concrete jungle every year. I lucked out when I bought my house. I snagged a place on the southwest side near S. Oakdale, so I'm within walking distance of a lot of stuff, including downtown, while still being out of the hustle & bustle. I love Ashland, but nearly all of my business takes place in Medford, so it just made sense to move there.

Hi Ashland Cohort folks, I started a facebook group: OHSU ABSN ASHLAND 2020

So far, simplysadie and I are in ?

Hi!

Anyone in the Portland area have an advice on apartment hunting? My husband and I are moving down from Washington. Although we have been to Portland several times, we aren't totally sure on neighborhoods to be looking in, etc. We were hoping to make a few trips down between now and the fall start date, but we don't see that happening anytime soon. Any recommendations on good neighborhoods that aren't too far from school, apartment complexes, etc. would be SO helpful! Thanks! ?

I'd say most of the housing is on the East side of the river, and it tends to get cheaper the farther east you go. I would recommend not getting any farther east than 39th-ish for commute reasons (but it's still totally commutable), and check out bus lines and bike routes around where you're interested. I'm lucky enough to have an express bus near where I live, so it takes ~30-40 minutes to get up the hill to school.

On the west side, the John's landing area is convenient for school. Quick note: there isn't much free parking on the west side even in residential areas (it's mostly by permit). But, there's also more apartments with students on the west side because PSU is right there too.

I rent with Capital Property Management, and I haven't had any issues with them and they tend to have cost effective properties (and cover all utilities besides electric - usually). I'd say focus mostly on your commute, because once you start clinicals you'll have to be on the hill at 6:30am, so having the easiest way up is nice. Also, parking on the hill is VERY limited and is I think around $15 per day, so driving isn't always the best option.

Hi All,

Just wanted to share with you this new posting I saw on OHSU's website: https://www.ohsu.edu/school-of-nursing/compliance

I was reading about the requirements for technology and that it says Mac's/Apple may pose to have some issues. Anyone know if other students have been able to work out those issues with the newer Mac's?

In my cohort, there are people who use Mac's who haven't had any issues and also people who use tablets and have had only a few issues that were able to worked around

Hey everyone,

Just got word that I received a waitlist spot, so they should be coming in now.

I am turning down my spot for another offer, but I wanted to wish everyone luck and a good program! Stay healthy!

Assuming you were "highly" likely?
