San Joaquin County - STAFF NURSE I - HI GUYS!! i received an email today regarding an ORAL EXAM in two weeks!!! Any advice??? I'm so nervous....I wish it was a written exam! The email stated: The next phase of the selection process is the oral exam - a structured interview process that will assess your education, training, and experience and may include a practical exercise.
DID ANYONE ELSE HAD AN ORAL EXAM FOR THIS FACILITY? If so, any tips??? thanks so much!

Hello JoopingggBSN,
I have no experience with that particular facility but it sounds like it will be an interview with scenarios that will test your clinical judgment. If so, remember your ABC's and recruit help by calling a code or calling the rapid response team (or similar team). Research what emergency situations and ethical problems that are common in the area you are applying to.
Do you know any nurses who currently work at this hospital? Is it kosher for you to ask for tips for your interview and examples of what practical exercises you will be asked to do?
I do, but not a very close kind of "I want to ask you something on what you do here?" basis. Well, I can see you've been a LPN/LVN for 5 years so to me you have an edge. Me, on the other hand I just went straight RN. I'm pretty sure it's going to be about scenarios about medications what s/sx to look out for. How do we assess a patient, and how can we help someone in a particular scenario. I'm 20 years old still, but hey, I passed the Nclex-RN, so I'm just hoping the knowledge from the numerous books i've read through will be much of help towards the upcoming oral exam. Maybe they'll be testing out how good we solve calculations. Just a heads up, we don't know right? But, we've learned in nursing school that preparing the best we can reduces our anxiety for the foreseen event. =]

I interviewed for this position also. I believe that the oral exam process is over. What did you guys think of it? Did you guys answer all the questions?
Im pretty nervous now.
results of the interview were sent out today. Did anybody get into the top 3 ranks?
Said I passed, but i'm in the 6th rank. So, I'm guessing I have a chance at it, for now I'm still looking for a job. Goodluck and Godbless to all New Grad Nurses out there, keep your head up!

Hi, I have heard of these oral exams and was wondering if you ever figured out what it was exactly? Was it a simulation or oral interview questions? Any help would be great! Thank you!
