Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

hey everyone, i am a second semester nursing student and i am trying to prepare for my last year of nursing school and the nclex. i want to buy a good review book and also a q&a book. i know saunders and mosby's both have good review books and q&a series...but i want to know which one you guys prefer. which has better content review? which has harder questions? what did you guys like/dislike about each of them? any opions will be greatly appreciated ;) !

Definitely Saunders for Review content. NCLEX 4000 for Q&A. Both are similar to the actual NCLEX exam. Goodluck.

Hi! Haven't tried Mosby; I only can vouch for Saunders bec I used it. I find it almost complete. Easy to organize on the mind because of the format. Good luck!:)

Many people are successful using the Saunders Comprehensive Review. Suggest you go to a bookstore and spend some time actually looking at the various review books available to choose the one that looks best for you.

thanks for your replies everyone!!!

i was just wondering about one more thing....

i was at the library yesterday studying for a test and i used a lippincott questions review book...i liked it but i was wondering if anyone else has tried it and liked it??

I'll go for Saunder's because it is divided into chapters and it is more complete and more organized compared to Mosby's.;)

MOSBY!!!!!!!!!! I have both and Lipincott. I'm gonna tell you. I thought Mosby was written simple, Saunders was in detail but Lipincott has DISORDERS! So they all in a sense helped as far as knowledge. The test was written as MOSBY! Some of the same questions where in Mosby word from word. I PROMISE! There was TONS of priority, infection control-I swear I had @ least 60 questions! Only 3 math problems, 40 pharm. & the rest general questions. I was not sure which NCLEX to use, I had brought so many books. My whole family is mostly in the medical field. My mom told me to stop buying books. I spent @ least a grand on books to prepare. They helped me, they did. I started sorting threw ALL my books & came across an older Mosby I had purchased THREE years ago. I had @ least 25 or 23 questions came out of Mosby. Not Saunders or Lipincott. I was soooooooo shock that the NCLEX was basic. I was expecting a monster how people speak of it. Someone @ this site had gave the BEST advice EVER about the NCLEX. I kept repeating it in my head along with other things. They said approach the test as if it is just another practice exam. It helped. The test was worded simple. The test was broad as people say it is. The people @ the center are very professional, kind & prompt with all your needs & concerns. Everyone testing has positive energy, most where in sweats, very causal. 2 hours in, the NCLEX gives you an option for a break. It's a plus when you're expecting more and it's less. I only had 4 lab val. questions. You'll do fine, Good Luck & congrats on your new profession.

Hi Mrs.ADG,

what is your score in mosby practice? I'm using the Mosby -CD for practice, but my score between 50-57% I'm scare I might not pass my NCLEX with this low score. Any tips for study to pass NCLEX. I have saunder too but I did not use it.

thanks

84%, I'm telling you TONS of infection control, priority not that many math problems but pharm. questions YES. There where med on there that I had never heard of. You should switch it up a bit to make sure that you aren't working off "memory of the questions". That u are actually retaining the information within the question. That's how I did it and it was my reasoning behind using different disc. It is advised NOT to do that though. I did it n' I'm glad I did. The wording is different but all books had some of the same questions. I used disc that came with the pharmacology book the school gave which had NCLEX format questions that where "somewhat" as the exam {it was by Mosby as well}. I used math for nurses Mary Jo Boyer{she got me threw MANY quizes} & Kaplan. Lois White for ped's and maternity. I used quick terms instead of my actual med term disc. For each NCLEX book I had I did TWO sections per week until 4 days before the exam. Good luck n' do what's best "FOR YOU". I swear to you it was a relief THAT I studied the way I did and the test WAS NOTHING as I expected. The questions where NOT as saunders. I have SAUNDERS EVERYTHING!! The whole system, not just the NCLEX book, the knowledge is good to know but I did not see ANY of it on the test @ all-in that depth. The test is board n' basic. The hard part is over WE ALL FINISHED SCHOOL!

Thank you for the advise, I will try many practice as I can, becuase my test is the last week of May.I'm get nervous.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

I took the NCLEX-RN yesterday, and in my opinion, the questions that were on my exam were most similar to the ones that I had practiced in the Saunders Comprehensive Review book.

Keep in mind that I have looked at practice questions from several different sources: Hurst, Kaplan, Saunders, NCLEX 3500, and Cliffs Test Prep. The questions that are inside the Saunders book and CD were strikingly similar to actual NCLEX questions that I saw.

Thank you for the advise, I will try many practice as I can, becuase my test is the last week of May.I'm get nervous.

hang in there!!! Good luck n' many prayers. U can always do it again, @ least u'll know what's on there but u'll get it that first that shot in Jesus name!:yeah:
