is operating room certification a requirement?

Published

i have a question to RPNs who work in the operating room or minor surgery clinics,, is the perioperative nursing certificate some kind of a license in order to work in an operating room or does it just give you an advantage in landing the job? does working in clinics who provide minor surgeries require that? anybody here who works in surgery clinics without that perioperative nursing certificate? thanks for all answers! :)

The perioperative certificate is a requirement to work in day surgery at my facility. To actually work in the OR you need the OR certification which is completely different from the perioperative one. The OR cert program has a lab component. I have taken the perioperative one, a coworker is taking the OR one through Sheridan.

The OR Tech designation is hard work. Classroom/on-line study and a practicum in various ORs. It includes peri and intra operative care and hands on with the instruments before hitting the actual theatres.

You won't get an OR job in AB without either obtaining the designation by yourself or landing a spot on a AHS funded training programme for existing staff.

how about private clinics like plastic/cosmetic surgery? i have a scheduled interview next week but i forgot to tell them i dont have that certificate,,

Tell the truth.

It's not an area where you can bluff your way through
