  1. Hi there, what made you hate it? I just dont feel comfortable working beside surgeons anymore thats why im contemplating taking a step back and applying for sterile processing.. do you work as operating room nurse right now? Thank you.
  2. hello everyone, i'm an RPN here in Ontario working in a endoscopy clinic, i recently finished operating room course in centennial college and now im thinking of becoming a MDRD (medical device reprocessing technician), i know the salary is less than what a surgical technician makes but i kinda feel like i'm not built for the O.R. anymore, i feel like working in the background like reprocessing technicians do is what's suitable for me (i'm an introvert). anybody here who can shed some light on how to become a medical device reprocessing technician? what will the maximum salary be? what courses should i take and does being a Surgical technician give me an edge in becoming MDRD in less time? thanks for all the replies!!
  3. im here to get some insights and advice, not to be judged or criticized or whatever you may call it. im sure im not the first person who picks a career then realizes in the long run that other careers might be the right suit for me,, i hope the word burnout sounds familiar to you. thank you for your comment anyway, still appreciated.
  4. actually,, sad to say but the less patient interaction, the better it is for me,,,
  5. im a bit 50-50 right now,, since i have nursing degree in the philippines i only need 2 years to get a degree here in canada,, but the thing is,, i usually am choosy when it comes to accepting areas/jobs,, so far the areas i have worked for which i think suited me are operating room and endoscopy clinic,, and both of them does not involve interacting with patients alot,,, its usually the doctor's which i really have to deal with. and im hearing some comments from others saying rad tech jobs are very hard to land? is it wise to choose an associate rad. tech degree for a bachelor in nursing degree? i live in ontario i hope some nurses here can give me an insight regarding the job market for rad tech/ x ray tech in the province,, thanks for all your comments! :)
  6. hi guys,, im an rpn here in ontario,, next year im planning to get into bscn program for IENs,, but im thinking deeply about other career options,, ever since i became a nurse i always have the feeling that nursing is not really meant for me,, i always tell myself that if ever i will start again i could have studied a different program,, now here i am again im thinking of upgrading from RPN to become RN mainly because at my work i do almost everything RN's do and they get paid significantly more than me,, im thinking if i stay in nursing i might as well complete BSN degree again here in canada,, but im kind of getting interested in radiology tech course too,, im thinking is it worth going to school 2 years to become RT or just spend those extra 2 years to earn my BSCN degree? its very difficult for me to decide,, i think i even need to hire a career adviser :) any of you guys here have an idea how the job market for Rad techs (xray techs) especially in ontario? all my nursing career i worked in the operating room because i cant imagine myself working as a floor nurse and handling the same patient for 8 hours, (im an introvert) i think it just means i cant be 100% nurse please help
  7. will i my license be in danger of being revoked if i only work 1-2 days a week as an rpn?
  8. and how will you compare IT career to nursing by the way? stress levels? :) growth opportunities?
  9. is it difficult to land an IT job here in Ontario? and would an associate degree in IT be the same as with an RN salary wise?
  10. im an rpn here in ontario and if i want to become RN i need to go to school another 2-3 years,, but ever since i was younger im always into computers,, now im thinking if i should just get a 3 year associate degree in computer or just continue becoming a nurse,, i told myself before if ever i go back to school maybe it should be for another career. im really confused,, i had 5 years of o.r. nurse experience in the philippines and i never liked working on the floor,, any career advice? i can spend the whole day in front of the computer thats why im thinking maybe a computer career is what i should have chosen a long time ago,, even my fellow RPN in the clinic i work for right now noticed that i dont look too happy about my job,, i think it shows that im not 100% dedicated about my job,, any advice? p.s. im 30 years old
  11. oh so there is no such thing as 2 year univwrsity only without that bridging? im thinking of york university or humber... but york seems impossible for me to get in as i have to compete with hundreds or maybe thousands of applicants just to get one of the 50 slots. :) im thinking of humber but im wondering if i still need to get an assessment from cno? because if i wanted to go back to shool in the first place why would i still need to wait for cno to assess my papers and just tell me that i need to go back to school.. :) thank you for your responses :)
  12. do i need additional schooling before i could be accepted by universities and start studying 2 years? what is academic pathway/ or bridging they say? is that not a part of the 2 years?
  13. hi there,, im an IEN who is a Registered Practical Nurse here in Ontario,, can anybody here provide me a list of schools which accept IENs? i want to go back to school so i could become a BScN but i dont know where and how to start ,, an do you know which school offers the shortest program? say 2 years maybe? thanks a lot for the help...
  14. how about private clinics like plastic/cosmetic surgery? i have a scheduled interview next week but i forgot to tell them i dont have that certificate,,
  15. i have a question to RPNs who work in the operating room or minor surgery clinics,, is the perioperative nursing certificate some kind of a license in order to work in an operating room or does it just give you an advantage in landing the job? does working in clinics who provide minor surgeries require that? anybody here who works in surgery clinics without that perioperative nursing certificate? thanks for all answers! :)
