Ontario Second-Entry Nursing (2017)

Published

Hey everyone :)

So fall just flew in so I thought what a great time it would be to start my nursing applications lol. It is very early, but I enjoy having this on my mind. I am in my final year at University and am hoping to be a nursing student come next September. I wanted to make a space where we could come together with a common goal: getting accepted. The schools I plan to apply are:

Trent, Toronto, Humber, Western and Queens

Possibly considering RPN programs as well.

Hi everyone,

Western said that they should be sending out the remaining offers, rejections, and wait list by Friday.

Good luck to all!

Anyone else waiting for an answer from UToronto

My application still says received .... (getting so impatient )

SAME HERE!! It is driving me crazy. There is never a day where I don't think about it. I hope we hear back soon. I heard that some of us may hear back on May 31st.

I REALLY HOPE SO !!!! I kinda just want to know .. its killing me

Has anyone that has been admitted to UofT received award/scholarship information?

Hello @kenra9,

You remembered just on time! I emailed mine in a while ago, took a little bit for them to respond that they received it. Yep, do you know if our classes are integrated with the individuals doing the 4-year stream. That's what I'm thinking based on the descriptions offered on the site.

When I called and talked to the admissions coordinator she said that some courses would be integrated with the 4-year stream, and some would not. She said our schedule will be a strict pre-made one, since there will not be any electives. This is what she told me, but honestly she didn't sound like she was entirely sure. Who knows, hopefully we get more information on all of this when we get our acceptance packages!

@llmmcc

Lol, that doesn't surprise me. Her information seems to coincide with the course descriptions, I believe some were titled "basic accelerated". But yes, patiently waiting for said package. Thanks for filling me in! (:

Has anyone has had to decide between Western and McMaster? If so what is your thought process? I am leaning more towards Western. I already declined Trent and UofT. I just want to make sure I am making the right choice.

Unfortunately I can't offer anything helpful in terms of your question, but I was curious what made you consider Western and Mac over U of T? I am trying to decide between Mac and U of T right now and feel like I'm going crazy trying to make a choice!

I do not like big cities, so I did not like the idea of living in Toronto. As well, it seems like the market there its saturated with nurses so it would be harder to get a job after. They also have a reputation of destroying GPA, and I want to do a Masters in nursing down the line, so I need a decent GPA for that.

Hope it helps! Good luck with your choice.

Thank you for the reply, every little bit of info or perspective definitely helps! Good luck with your choice as well, I think in reality there are no "bad" choices, so take some comfort in that! :)

I don't know much about the program itself at McMaster. You should maybe try to contact other nursing students who are currently in the program through facebook groups, they can give you a better insight of the program.

In terms of the school, McMaster is a great school. I did my undergraduate study there and I am glad I did. The environment and space is really different comparing both Hamilton and Toronto. The campus is also beautiful. I think both programs are great. But you should look more into it by communicating with other nursing students who are in those programs. Goodluck ! :)
