Ontario Second-Entry Nursing (2017)

Published

Hey everyone :)

So fall just flew in so I thought what a great time it would be to start my nursing applications lol. It is very early, but I enjoy having this on my mind. I am in my final year at University and am hoping to be a nursing student come next September. I wanted to make a space where we could come together with a common goal: getting accepted. The schools I plan to apply are:

Trent, Toronto, Humber, Western and Queens

Possibly considering RPN programs as well.

Hey @hjk1234, can I asked what your average was when you were accepted to Trent? (on your last 2 years of study I believe), thanks :)

I had 3.6 for my last 2 years and I received offer from Trent in early Feb.

Hey hjk1234!

I am new to the GPA scale, so I am curious what your average was in percentage? I am assuming you were accepted to Humber based on your 3.6 but I don't know exactly what that is. I've had a hard time converting my percent but I think I will be 3.4 (I have an 82% for my last 2 years). Also, when were you accepted to Humber?

Thanks!

I'm in my 4th year at McMaster now and I'm planning to apply to as many schools as possible! I was actually a former nursing student but I withdrew from the program due to some personal circumstances. But I'm ready to go back. :nurse: My cGPA is a 3.7 and I'm filling my schedule with prereqs next semester! Hopefully that will bring up my "last 10 GPA" to a 3.8. Good luck everyone!

Hey, I am actually not so sure about my average in percentage. I think it's around 82-4. And I received an offer from Humber around early March!

I'm in fourth year with one more year to go and I really want to get into a nursing program for next year. I haven't heard too many cases of students being admitted before they graduate so I probably have a slim chance, but I'm going to try anyway. I'm applying to York (first choice), UofT (originally my first choice, but I probably won't get in) and Humber as they are close-by. I have a 3.7 cGPA. Don't have much for extracurriculars so I'm nervous about UofT lol. Are there any UofT students here? What kind of extracurriculars did you have on your application?

Hey, I'm really interested in Humber's nursing program! Do you know where the clinical placements are usually assigned? Also, how are the professors/teachers/instructors?

Hi everyone!

Thought I'd join in since I'm really excited/nervous about my applications! I'm applying to U of T, Western and UBC for September. I graduated in April with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. My GPA for my last year is a 3.91. My GPA for my last two years is a 3.77. Is anyone else taking Biol 235 online through Athabasca? I'm starting it January 1st, so I'm a little nervous about finishing it by May 1st to have my grades released by mid-June!

@nicbrad_ i agree!! i just went to apply to 4 schools and it came to about $500 because of all the supplementary fees...

Does anyone know when the deadline to apply to Queens is? On OUAC it says January 1st but on the website it says January 15th..

hey everyone!

I was accepted to humber second entry program last year, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I believe they accept around a 3.5 gpa for your last 10 credits/2 years of your degree. I think Humber sends a bunch of acceptances in March and at the end of April. But they also accept people all the way until june/july too depending on waitlists or if people drop out etc.

The first semester is the prep semester which consists of psych, stats, anatomy, pathophysiology and microbiology. If you've taken these courses before in your degree and have a 74 in them, you would be exempt from them. I think most people ended up taking 3 courses: anatomy, patho and micro. So far, the profs have been really helpful and explain things quite clearly. Tests are also for the most part quite fair as well. I did really well this semester, but I definitely had to put in a lot of work everyday in order to achieve high grades. In order to move onto to the next semester (January), you have to achieve a 74 in each of the courses in your prep semester.

For anatomy, there is a lab session where you get to see cadavers which is pretty cool too!

The clinical placements are all in GTA. I don't think I'm supposed to say where exactly, but a lot in Toronto/Mississauga area.
