Ontario Second-Entry Nursing

Published

Hi Everyone!

This is super early to talk about applying to nursing school for 2016, but it's always better to be well-prepared! Let's share some thoughts and help each other out!

I am re-applying to nursing schools as I did not get in last year, and planning to enroll to more courses for pre-reqs and to increase my GPA (I graduated with a B.A.)hopefully this year will be much better and with luck!!!!

I have a few universities in mind to apply -

  1. University of Toronto
  2. York
  3. Nipissing
  4. Western
  5. Queen's
  6. McMaster

Should I apply to more? Which one should I apply? I am super eager to enter the program and I failed once, failing twice is not allowed!

Feel Free to give me suggestions or ask questions! Here is a link I found online listing most of the second entry nursing programs.

Best wishes to everyone! Good Luck!

-Bon :)

I'm just really hoping to hear something from UofT this week! I've applied to York and Mac as well, but UofT is my #1. I know so many people applying to second entry nursing this year, makes me think it will definitely be competitive everywhere!

Has anyone heard back from York yet?

I'm sure UofT will start sending out emails this week.

I only applied to UofT so I'm really nervous. Talk about putting all of your eggs in one basket.

I wish you all the best of luck!

FYI everyone I just called UofT about something transcript related and asked on the side about when the first round of yes/nos might go out. The person on the phone said they thought the admissions committee was talking last week about getting rolling with it this week. But it also sounds like hearing soon or not will be contingent on your relative standing, with only the top GPAs and lowest GPAs getting word early, until everyone's finals grades come in.

@beccanursing I would assume that the supplementary application plays a role though in determining acceptance too. I am curious on how everything is weighted. Especially after reading posts on last years forum where people with higher GPA were rejected from UofT compared to others with lower GPA but better supplementary application. It's quite confusing I think.

I totally agree - I am referring more to the outliers, so I was hypothesizing that the extremely low or extremely high GPAs are likely to hear first. The supplementary application is no doubt important but I'm not sure a fabulous supplementary application can overcome a really really low GPA? And the flip side too, where no doubt a candidate with really really high GPA could get rejected if their supplementary application is really poor. The evaluations of the outliers are the ones I think will happen early... I'm not sure how they would send out acceptances/rejections before all grades come in otherwise. It's all speculation of course lol. You're right, looking at past patterns is a good indicator. Except that the supplementary application is in a black box. Sigh it's time to be free of this! ;)

@beccanursing It really is! And they said early April in an email "early" on which means likely this week or next. I just want to know either way at this point :/. The waiting is killing me! Wishing you all the best with the end of a semester etc hopefully keeping everyone busy while we wait :).

does anybody have any updates for york?

I just got accepted to U of T by email a couple hours ago!

@northlyons Congrats that's awesome:)! If you don't mind me asking what is your GPA/ supplementary like?

Honors BA in Psychology, Concentration in Health (84%). Research and sports. Worked in South Africa for a year at a paediatric HIV non-profit and did research for the division of cardiothoracic surgery at the largest public/private hospital in Cape Town.
