Ontario Second-Entry Nursing

Published

Hi Everyone!

This is super early to talk about applying to nursing school for 2016, but it's always better to be well-prepared! Let's share some thoughts and help each other out!

I am re-applying to nursing schools as I did not get in last year, and planning to enroll to more courses for pre-reqs and to increase my GPA (I graduated with a B.A.)hopefully this year will be much better and with luck!!!!

I have a few universities in mind to apply -

  1. University of Toronto
  2. York
  3. Nipissing
  4. Western
  5. Queen's
  6. McMaster

Should I apply to more? Which one should I apply? I am super eager to enter the program and I failed once, failing twice is not allowed!

Feel Free to give me suggestions or ask questions! Here is a link I found online listing most of the second entry nursing programs.

Best wishes to everyone! Good Luck!

Anyone know how big the class size is for U of T?

I don't think I'll make it this year. I need to take some more courses and get A's in them. I was thinking I would take them at Seneca, rather than York. UofT and McMaster accept college courses but I haven't heard back from Queen's and UWO. Do any of you guys know? Any advice or course suggestions?

I believe about 150

Has anyone heard anything from Mac or UWO yet? Mac says they would start issuing admissions April to June (latest) on their site.

They emailed me awhile ago saying about 175 students each year are admitted. (With usually over 900 applicants) Also that around 80% of the entering class has an A-/A average.

Is the A-/A average the cumulative average or average in the last 5.0 FCE?

The A-/A was your last year average. UofT doesn't look at the overall - just last year average, pre-reqs, references and essay questions.

Does anyone have any insight into how UofT weights each part of the application?

For example York is transparent about your standing being composed of 2/3 GPA and 1/3 CASPer score.

Knowing UofT generally I would expect GPA to be pretty heavily weighted but that's just speculation. Interested in others' thoughts!

When I went to the UofT info session I heard they initially order applications by GPA, then make sure all your pre-reqs have acceptable grades. Then they'd start looking into the references + essays. Makes the most sense on their part (time wise). From what I read on previously years forums the early acceptances went out to those with 3.9+ GPA. So I'd guess your GPA is the biggest determinant initially.

You think they order it based on the self-reported GPA? Or the OUAC transcripts? Because I think I made a mistake on mine in the supplementary application :/

That's so helpful. Thank you!

I would think they would use your transcripts... Don't think they would take our words for it ;). I'm sure mistakes like that happen and they can figure it out. Don't worry!
