Ontario Second-Entry Nursing

World Canada CA Programs

Hi Everyone!

This is super early to talk about applying to nursing school for 2016, but it's always better to be well-prepared! Let's share some thoughts and help each other out!

I am re-applying to nursing schools as I did not get in last year, and planning to enroll to more courses for pre-reqs and to increase my GPA (I graduated with a B.A.)hopefully this year will be much better and with luck!!!!

I have a few universities in mind to apply -

  1. University of Toronto
  2. York
  3. Nipissing
  4. Western
  5. Queen's
  6. McMaster

Should I apply to more? Which one should I apply? I am super eager to enter the program and I failed once, failing twice is not allowed!

Feel Free to give me suggestions or ask questions! Here is a link I found online listing most of the second entry nursing programs.

Best wishes to everyone! Good Luck!

Hey, all the best next year! I will be applying to York as well. Just to give everyone a heads up that the requirements have changed from this year - so check the website! lol

From what to what?

It says you need a cumulative grade point average of at least a B (6.0 on the York Scale) and a B+ (7.0) average in the last 30 credits. Also, you need at least a B (6.0 on the York Scale) for each prerequisite course.

Hi there!

Wonderful, I'm also planning to apply to most of those schools (except for York):

- Queen's

- U of T

- Nippissing

- McMaster

- Western

- Trent

- Dalhousie

I applied to Queen's this year and didn't get in unfortunately, so hopefully now that I'm in my final year I will have a better chance (especially with applying to other schools too)! I'm entering my final year of Biology at Queen's with a cGPA of 3.46 and a GPA last year of 3.88. I worked in a research lab in my first year of University, have many extracurricular involvements, have worked and coordinated overnight camps for three years, and am currently planning an Orientation for 4,500 incoming students - so though they're not directly nursing-related hopefully that will help me out as well!

Hi everyone!

I am applying to York as well for the 2016 class. Does anyone know what the cutoff was for 2015/what my chances are with an 82.08% average in my final year and a 72% average overall - first and second year were not that great.

Also, I am having a hard time determining what my sGPA and cGPA would be on a 4.0 or 9.0 scale as my school only uses percentages. Can anyone give me an estimate of what mine would be? I'm thinking I have an sGPA around 3.7 and a cGPA around 2.7 on a 4.0 scale.

Good luck everyone!

Rajm, am I correct in assuming a 70% counts as a 6.0? I am freaking out now because I only got a 70% in anatomy (full year course).

Im also applying to a few of the second entry programs this year! Wondering if you could give me an idea of if Ill have a chance or not.

Im missing micro, nutrition and chemistry and the university level though... which counts me out of a few programs. I'll be applying to uwo, queens, humber and UofT.

My 3rd year average was a 79.4, first year and second year were not very good for me as I had a 70 and 71. So Im hoping to have my last 10 credits with an average around 81.

@york2016 - Yes, you're correct! :)

Hey everyone! I finally decided to stop creeping this page and finally comment! lol

Little bit about myself ..

- graduated from York U with a Biology degree in June 2015

-applied to York and Humber 2nd entry last year but i did not get in :( due to my gpa and unfinished prerequisites

- Now , I am reapplying to the 2nd degree programs with a cGPA of 6.2 and last 30 credits of 7.66 . So hopefully i get in!

Lets keep this thread rolling!

In the 4.0 scale :

Last 30 credits = 3.73

cGPA= 3.32

Hi! I will be applying to UofT for 2016 intake! Good luck to everyone!
