I know it's early, but let's get a thread going. 2015-hopefuls, share your thoughts, concerns, questions, and experiences here!
Hi everyone! I just got into U of T this morning. I have a 3.7 sessional GPA and my experience includes research at at downtown hospital, working at a children's disability centre and volunteering at a hospital as well as a local school during university. Good luck to everyone out there !!!!!
yaay! that's great! :)
have you already completed your fourth year?
For those who applied to Nipissing's SPP, below are things I inquired of a friend who is currently in her first year in Nipissing's SPP. As I am also hoping to get into the program myself this year, I inquired and here are some of the things she told me:
- very self-directed; basically no teaching at all
- very small class sizes
- most learning is through placements: you get partnered with a nurse in your placements
- lots of group projects and presentation
- there are writing assignments based on placements (i.e. you set a goal you hope to achieve by the end of the placement period, then you write how you hope to achieve those skills, and then update it along the way, they are due at the end of the placement period)
- there are exams each semester (big exams that usually require students to have 80% or more in order to pass, if not, they must repeat the semester; so kinda like make-or-break exams)
- they have 3 semesters: Sem 1: September - November, December break; Sem 2: January-March, April Break; Sem 3: May-July, August break, etc.
- Each semester is broken down to: 1 month of in-class, 2 months of placements
- Toronto campus have no simulation laboratory, so most skills is practiced and learned during placements
Hope the above information helps!
I'll post more if I found out some more information.
Still waiting on any updates. Congrats to those who got admission so far! :)
Hello!! I have a 6.13 as well for cumulative (but below 3.0 in a 4.0 scale) and a 7.38 for the last year. So i'm wondering, do you know if they look at the 4.0 scale as well as the york gpa? because my 4.0 scale gpa is lower than my york gpa somehow... and my last year's gpa is a lot higher than my cumulative...
Im hoping they only look at the at the york gpa and they take my last year gpa into consideration when seeing my low cumulative...haha
if you have any thoughts or insights on this, id appreciate it ^^
Hello!
I don't think anyone is in the same position as me right now based on all the positive feedback of acceptances; however, has anyone not heard ANYTHING? I haven't been rejected, accepted or waitlisted to U of T, Trent, York or Nipissing (obviously this school isn't a concern right now as its early for them!). I haven't heard anything at all - all my files just say my "application is under review" or "still be evaluated".
Should I be concerned? I just emailed the three schools asking if I am missing anything which is slowing down my evaluation. I'm getting incredibly anxious!
Thanks to anyone who can provide any insight.

I havent heard back anything either! I have applied to all the same places except York. I think were not in the first round of admissions. But as people slowly start declining their offers, they will send out more acceptances. My friend who applied last year did not hear anything til the end of May from her first school. I know the waiting is tough but hopefully we will hear something soon!

Me too! I haven't heard anything. I think it's because I just finished school so they are all waiting for my final grades to go through. Are you just finishing school now too??

I'm also in the same position. Waiting for my final marks to be sent out mid-may. When I e-mailed nursing admissions at U of T awhile ago they said that some people may be admitted with a conditional offer, but I think for the most part they wait to see your final year marks. I'm sure we will all hear end of May! :)
they must hold spots knowing that not all of the applicants will have finished their degrees yet (I hope)
I finished up my degree in December, so all my marks have been updated and finished for quite some time! I honestly cannot wait that long to accept a spot into a program - I have been accepted into a Pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs program that is set to start classes in two weeks. To decline a spot in a program I've been accepted to, to MAYBE get into a school in May or June, seems silly to me. It's unfortunate it takes them MONTHS to even update the file..
