Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2021

Published

Hey everyone!

I haven't seen a post for Fall 2021 yet so here it is!

My choices are:

1. UofT

2. McMaster

3. Nipissing SPP

I started my OUAC application in November and now trying to work on the supplemental packages. My CASPer Test is on January 12, 2021.

I need to take Anatomy and Physio course(s) however, I'm having a hard time figuring out what would satisfy the requirements from all three universities. My options so far are:

1. Take CBLG 101 in Winter and CBLG 111 in Spring at Ryerson. However final grade will be in June; hoping that's fine.  This satisfies all 3 unis

2. Take SCS 2159 in Winter from UofT which is enough for UofT and McMaster but not for Nipissing. I have to take an Anatomy course just for Nip.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from back home, been working as an RECE in Toronto the last 8 years, have a Diploma in Nonprofit Management at Ryerson. My cGPA is 3.55 which I'm worried about. Lots of extra curricular activities from university and volunteering here in Toronto.  I still have to compute the GPA for the last two years.

I requested WES to send my transcripts to Nip and McMaster and asked my old uni to send to UofT.

It's been an expensive application so far; really hoping I get in! Looking forward to chatting with you all and sharing our experiences.

Ooof were you able to accept it before it was retracted? I wonder if that will guarantee you a place in the program ? I hope you guys will get in soon!

Unfortunately no I wasn’t able to before it got retracted : I sent them an email asking if this was an error . But no response yet

Currently finishing up my first year at Mac accelerated. What would you like to know? I can't compare to UofT but I can certainly tell you anything you wanna know about Mac.

Thanks for replying! This is kind of general but would you be able to talk about the pros vs cons of the program? I would really appreciate it ?

I'm in the same situation what I was thinking of doing was waiting until all my marks were posted and requesting my transcript on OUAC to be sent immediately but the thing is then the school would get 2 transcripts. I emailed Western admissions about this though and haven't received a reply yet.

That's a good idea. Maybe we can cancel the June 3rd request once we submit the immediate request? I'm not sure if that option is there on OUAC tbh

Your unable to cancel a request for a transcript.

Just to clarify something. We do ask as part of the Terms of Service of the site that staff members from nursing schools, universities or nursing programs are not mentioned in posts. Not all websites name staff. We do not ban anyone who does this, you may get a private message informing you of any changes made to your post but if there are a few posts naming someone we generally just post a gentle reminder. I have checked on a few members in this thread and no one has been banned

Did anyone have any comments about the pros and cons of the York program? I accepted the offer, but I am still waiting for UofT. I tried to find some comments about the program but couldn't find any. I heard people said they don't prepare students for the NCLEX.

Current york student (not in nursing ofc) but can second some of the negative comments, but mainly around the strikes. York frequently goes on strikes and this has a significant impact on nursing students. The last time it happened they lost lots of clinical hours which is far from ideal. They're due for another one soon and it's never a fun thing to deal with.

Something else to consider is the length of the program. For some reason York's program runs essentially twelve months long for 2 full years. This is in contrast to UfT's program which only runs until just before mid June with time off in the Summer and by consequence is also finished sooner as well. Western's program does the same, taking up a little bit more of that Summer between 1st and second year but ending sooner in April of the second year. This may not be important to you depending on your situation, but it is certainly a factor for me as that time not in school means I can work more either out of the field or in the field.

Lastly the NCLEX pass rate is a bit lower, but it's still not all that low as far as I'm concened.

I don't want to be all doom and gloom, the york nursing program is still good and the people who graduate are nurses all the same. I know one that works in an ER right out of school at a somewhat rural hospital. The administration hasn't been that bad in my experience at all, they're just busy and dealing with a lot of people which I imagine UfT struggles with as well.

Hope this helps!

Hello! I was wondering if anyone knew what McMasters schedule was like? I know it’s only 20 months vs others that are mainly 24 months. Does this mean it runs all through the first year? Are there any breaks between semesters? Thanks ?

facebook links for the Nursing programs are allowed. They are not hidden. Other group chat meets are not allowed.

Thank you for letting me know! The last time I tried posting, it either deleted my post or removed the link with asterisks. Is it because of something else then?
