Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2021

Published

Hey everyone!

I haven't seen a post for Fall 2021 yet so here it is!

My choices are:

1. UofT

2. McMaster

3. Nipissing SPP

I started my OUAC application in November and now trying to work on the supplemental packages. My CASPer Test is on January 12, 2021.

I need to take Anatomy and Physio course(s) however, I'm having a hard time figuring out what would satisfy the requirements from all three universities. My options so far are:

1. Take CBLG 101 in Winter and CBLG 111 in Spring at Ryerson. However final grade will be in June; hoping that's fine.  This satisfies all 3 unis

2. Take SCS 2159 in Winter from UofT which is enough for UofT and McMaster but not for Nipissing. I have to take an Anatomy course just for Nip.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from back home, been working as an RECE in Toronto the last 8 years, have a Diploma in Nonprofit Management at Ryerson. My cGPA is 3.55 which I'm worried about. Lots of extra curricular activities from university and volunteering here in Toronto.  I still have to compute the GPA for the last two years.

I requested WES to send my transcripts to Nip and McMaster and asked my old uni to send to UofT.

It's been an expensive application so far; really hoping I get in! Looking forward to chatting with you all and sharing our experiences.

Hi everyone!

Does anyone know how we're supposed to send transcripts once Winter term marks are in? Like do we request them through OUAC again or do we have to do it through the university we currently attend? Also is there a facebook group for Western Nursing?  Thanks!

I think you request through OUAC! A few months ago, I requested my transcripts to be sent at the end of Winter term, but you can choose the "send immediately" option too if you have all your Winter marks

Tbh, pre requisites should be worked on now/ even earlier. Not after the offer is given. I don’t think anyone is waiting to start their Prerequisite after their offer as that is too risky and you won’t really learn anything either.

Yes prerequisite suppose to do earlier. I did it ... still I don't know I will get offer or not.  In this forum I see that some people get offer but conditional because their one or two prerequisite do not fulfill criteria. So they need to retake that course. If you get offer last week of May  and you will find this...how will you manage.

Congrats to everyone who has gotten in! I was wondering does anyone have any pros and cons about the UofT nursing program? I hear so much about undergrad being so tough and draining at uoft, does this apply to the nursing program too? It is hard to maintain a high GPA compared to other schools? I appreciate any insight! Thanks in advance:)

I’m pretty sure they’ve already let everyone know if their pre-requisites were not according to their requirements. And to be fair, the anatomy and physiology requisites and what is expected is on their website, so it’s really the applicant’s responsibility.

Anyone know when trent and york will be sending out more acceptances? Haven't heard anything back from them unfortunately ?

Hey guys

So I emailed trent, mcmaster, york, and Uoft.

Both York and UofT are going to be handing out acceptances until June.

McMaster stated that acceptances will be handed out in May.

Trent stated that will be handing out acceptances until May.

Hi everyone! I was wondering if someone would be able to share their experience of the program at U of T? ? How you like it, what to expect, pros vs. cons, things like that. I was admitted last week and it's my top choice at the moment, just looking to compare the experiences from other people and other schools before I make a firm decision! Thank you in advance, and good luck to everyone waiting on acceptances. You got this -- keep having faith!

pros: variety in clinical placements (postpartum, ped (we do have sickkids and holland bloorview as our teaching partners), MH, geriatrics, med-surg all in the first year!). the network is pretty firm, supportive alumni. NCLEX pass rate is also very good and has been consistent.

Cons: your mental health and physical health can get trashed at any point in time, for any duration. expensive program. but I'm sure this is mostly the case for an accelerated program. I mean, we chose to finish 4yr program in 2yr LOL is a no-brainer to be mentally and physically devastated

I do like the program and I am glad that I chose uoft. I can feel that I am confident when I go to placements bc the school prepares me pretty well. ppl say a lot of "oh it's so theoretical", but you actually NEED to have this theory to apply in your practice. yes, it's a hands-on field, but in order to have that critical thinking, you have to have the baseline knowledge to make the decision.

hope this helps! + feel free to ask any quetions

If you search on Youtube for the channel "ThatNursingStudent", there's a student in the accelerated program currently at UofT who puts content out about being in the program. She has one called "Pros and Cons of the Accelerated Nursing Program at UofT" you may find helpful, but there are a few others!

Hello all! If I accept my uoft offer will McMaster and western no longer consider my application?

No, accepting one offer doesn't affect your other offers.
