Hey, I used to creep these forums for the past few years and they helped affirm my decision to apply to nursing school for Fall 2020. I didn't see one started for next year so I thought, why not start one?
I graduated a while back so I'm a bit older, but my top three choices are:
1. Queen's
2. McMaster
3. York
4. Humber-UNB
Has anyone had difficulty with prereqs being accepted or feel they hampered their chances?
Currently a US resident with a BA and Master's already, applying to U of T next year, and currently doing prereqs through a reputable/accredited US community college with courses that fulfill U of T's content requirements, but am anxious if the community college courses will severely limit me. U of T told me they'd be considered as junior-college credit and be "less competitive" which makes me anxious.

I don't know how community college credits are considered in the states - but one thing for sure I know is they DO look at the types of courses you took. If there is any way that you can vamp it up to university level, I'd say do it. if uoft straight up told you that its going to be less competitive, they aint lying - trust me I've been at this institute since 2011 and this school is all about being vague af.

They're equivalent to regular university credits, but U of T stated they're "less competitive" in general. I'm only taking them for prereqs, not actual school (again, I already have a BA and Master's degree). They were indeed INCREDIBLY vague during email correspondence. I could transfer the credits to my nearby 4-year university but I'm not sure (and they didn't say, at all) if that makes a difference. I hate to have wasted money, though if you believe it's best to cut my losses and take classes at the 4-year itself (more expensive), I guess I'll have to. Ugh.
Hi everyone!
HUGE CONGRATS to all of you who have been accepted into program this year and will be starting this September. It is such an amazing accomplishment and I wish you all the best of luck!
I just completed my undergrad degree at UofT and plan on applying to second entry programs this coming year (likely UofT and Western). I am specifically looking for information regarding Western's compressed nursing program admissions process (and you all have a WEALTH of info about UofT which is amazing!!).
I noticed they added the Casper test as a requirement and I was wondering if anyone knows how this may have impacted the admissions review process this year? In addition, does anyone know typically what is considered a competitive GPA for the program?
Any info is appreciated and thank you in advance for anyone who does respond!!

Hi there!
I thought I'd share my personal experience with applying to Western! For reference, both my GPA for my last 5 FCE and cGPA were around 3.63/4.0.
I'm not entirely sure how much they take the extracurricular section on OUAC into account, but I didn't have any research experience or volunteer experiences in hospitals. Although, I did highlight many other extracurriculars and part time jobs I took part in both on and outside of campus!
This was my first year applying to nursing programs, so I can't say much on how things were before they added CASPer. But, after reading people's experiences with CASPer on many of these forums (for nursing and other programs that require it!), it seemed that many people don't feel overly confident about their performance after taking the test. However, they've also expressed that despite feeling that way, many of them have still gotten accepted into their respective programs!
And I felt the same way too, especially when time is most definitely not on your side while writing the test!
Since the application is mainly based on numbers (GPA and CASPer score) and the little info provided on OUAC, I didn't think my chances were very high, but I ended up getting accepted early June!
I hope this provides some helpful insight for when you apply next year! Best of luck!! ?

Hey there! I'd love to share my personal experience applying to Western. My admission GPA (for the last 5 FCE) was 3.81/4.0. I'm not sure what is considered a competitive GPA for this program but I would assume having at least above 3.6 will give you a greater chance of getting in.
As for the prereqs, I did not do that well in them so I'm guessing they look at them more for completion rather than actually assessing the grade you got in them. When I wrote the CASPer, I definitely did not feel confident at all but I must have done alright if I got into Western! Also I've heard many people say that they felt the CASPer did not go well for them but they still ended up in their respective programs!
I initially got waitlisted at the beginning of June because I had just completed the stats prereq and they were waiting for my final grade. In mid-June, I got a call saying I was off the waitlist and got a spot! I honestly was not expecting this since the Western application was purely based on grade and CASPer so I was very shocked!
I hope this info and insight helps! Wishing you all the best for next year!
