Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2019

Updated:   Published

Hello Everyone,

I am currently a third year York University student hoping to apply for second entry nursing at York

only next year (yes I am going through the strike).

Since applications open in November, I thought it would be best to get this forum started. I am hoping to get more insight into the program and I hope current and past nursing students would share their views on the program and how job searching went. Also, what nursing specialties do most York nursing graduates enter as I am hoping to get into public health. Furthermore, share your insights on Humber, McMaster, U of T, Trent, Queens, Western, Ottawa and Nippissing. (I think that is all) and don't forget to include your acceptance GPAs.

Has anyone been waitlisted at UofT yet??

I was waitlisted at U of T last year, they emailed June 28. Then they rank the waitlist into 3 groups in July and let you know which group you are in. They emailed Sept 6 to say there were no spots left.

Do you mind if I ask what group you were put in?

Has anyone heard from Humber recently? I emailed about the waitlist and they told me it isn't ranked, so I'm not sure how they pick new people.

I was in Group 2. They told me 2 people total got in off the wait list around Aug 30th , 1 from group 1 and 1 from group 2, (I assume they got to group 2 because this was a week before school started)....needless to say it was a very long wait :(

I wonder what they mean by it isn't ranked? Because when I spoke to them about being waitlisted they said I should probably hear back earlier because my GPA is fairly strong. It's based on GPA so I don't know what they meant by ranked...

Do you have any info on when we might hear back if we were waitlisted?

That's weird, they told me they re-evaluate every time and don't have a set list. What they told you makes a lot more sense though.

Hey everyone! I'm currently a second-entry student at Humber! If anyone has any questions, let me know!

I have a question. What is the schedule like for the prep semester if you are taking all 5 courses? And then where are the placements mostly? How many 12 hour shift days do we have to do?

I only had to take 3 courses during the prep semester and with that I had Monday's off to study. The rest of the week was full though, with just those 3 courses! I believe people who did psych had it online (but from what I heard it was a lot of work) and I'm not sure when the stats course was! I know there was an in class portion and a lab portion.

The placements change all the time depending on the placement that you are doing and what they have available for that semester! From what I have heard from previous students, it usually changes so I couldn't say for certain. For the first semester you do one 12 hour shift a week + class and in the summer (second semester) you do two 12 hour shifts + class... its a lot of hard work and takes a lotttttttt of dedication, but its great!
