Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2019

World Canada CA Programs

Updated:   Published

Hello Everyone,

I am currently a third year York University student hoping to apply for second entry nursing at York

only next year (yes I am going through the strike).

Since applications open in November, I thought it would be best to get this forum started. I am hoping to get more insight into the program and I hope current and past nursing students would share their views on the program and how job searching went. Also, what nursing specialties do most York nursing graduates enter as I am hoping to get into public health. Furthermore, share your insights on Humber, McMaster, U of T, Trent, Queens, Western, Ottawa and Nippissing. (I think that is all) and don't forget to include your acceptance GPAs.

Yeah same! I was thinking the Humber second entry group should get together before the prep semester starts. I am taking all 5 courses so I need all the support and help I can get. I have a 3 y/o as well. So I am very anxious as to how this will all play out. Do we have a fb group for our batch? Or not yet!

I only had to take 3 courses during the prep semester and with that I had Monday's off to study. The rest of the week was full though, with just those 3 courses! I believe people who did psych had it online (but from what I heard it was a lot of work) and I'm not sure when the stats course was! I know there was an in class portion and a lab portion.

The placements change all the time depending on the placement that you are doing and what they have available for that semester! From what I have heard from previous students, it usually changes so I couldn't say for certain. For the first semester you do one 12 hour shift a week + class and in the summer (second semester) you do two 12 hour shifts + class... its a lot of hard work and takes a lotttttttt of dedication, but its great!

Thank you! Were there any night classes?

Hey there! Congratulations on getting in!

I joined multiple groups on FB - I just typed in Humber 2nd entry class of 2021 (and joined 2022 as well). Hopefully we can find each other there!

Thank you for all of this once again, you're extremely informative and definitely easing some of the anxiety I'm feeling jumping into this prep semester! Are the labs for Anatomy online or in person? And do we do them by ourselves or in groups?

I hope you're enjoying the actual nursing program and wishing you all the best! ?

I’m so glad, I was very very nervous before I started but once you get through the first 2 weeks you’ll get the hang of things and find your own routine!

The labs are all in person once a week, for 3 hours! You go there and work on “stations” at your own pace! Each week is on a few systems in the body. One lab I spent almost the entire 3 hours on learning the cardiovascular system! haha so you work on what you need the most time with! Also you can definitely work in groups, that’s how I met some of my good friends in the program!

I am loving it thank you! Hard work but like I said, if you love it then you will enjoy working hard!

Classes went until 5, you don’t have an option! There’s only one set of courses!

Oh this helps! I am already working a 9-5, so at least the prep semester's schedule isn't too bad. How about year 1 of nursing and year 2 of nursing. Any night classes? Other than the 12 hours shifts?

No night classes for us! Clinicals usually start at 6:30-7 and classes usually start at 8 but I think it changes a lot

I am so sorry for asking too many questions and I promise this will be my last question. When you say it changes a lot does that mean it varies year by year?

Hi guys,

Has anyone received their final offers from Queens and anymore information as to what is required for entry into the program? I accepted my conditional offer but haven't heard anything since. Thanks!

Same here. I got my acceptance on Feb 1, but it was conditional (because I was finishing up stats/ psyc). I meet the conditions and on my solus and OUAC it says accepted. I called the office the first week of May and they said everything was fine and that they will be sending out an email around June. I have been talking to our other classmates and they are in the same boat.

I guess all we can do is just wait (but it does make me anxious)

I will let you know if I get the email!

I just got an offer from western compressed nursing today! However my mind is set on going to u of t so I will be declining my offer. Hopefully this will ease the mind of whoever is still waiting to hear from western or already placed on the wait list. Good luck everyone !

I also recieved an offer from western today and will be accepting! dont lose hope guys!
