Hello Everyone,
I am currently a third year York University student hoping to apply for second entry nursing at York
only next year (yes I am going through the strike).
Since applications open in November, I thought it would be best to get this forum started. I am hoping to get more insight into the program and I hope current and past nursing students would share their views on the program and how job searching went. Also, what nursing specialties do most York nursing graduates enter as I am hoping to get into public health. Furthermore, share your insights on Humber, McMaster, U of T, Trent, Queens, Western, Ottawa and Nippissing. (I think that is all) and don't forget to include your acceptance GPAs.

I think I had to pick a back up option and that's why its the science and not nursing program. Has this happened for anyone else? Is there a likelihood that it will change to the nursing program? Helppppp
Me as well! I emailed them asking about the expected average for transfer & course outline, etc. But still waiting to hear back! Is Trent your first option?

I also got an alternate offer from Trent. I'm still waiting on 2 more programs. I personally don't want/need the honours science program as I will be graduating with a biomed degree this coming June. So, it personally doesn't make sense for me to take this route. However, I am aware that if you were to do the alternate offer, you would have to complete one year of the courses they tell you to take, then you would be able to transfer into the compressed nursing program in the following year. I was wondering if anyone knew whether other universities also hand out alternate offers if that uni was their number one choice?- or would they reject you? (For example uoft or western)

Still waiting too. Called and they said it is still ongoing for two weeks. And that they have only sent out 5% acceptance letter...

Do you guys think spots have been filled up by now if you haven't received an offer from uoft? Slowly starting to lose hope.....
There are definitely a few spots remaining! I just declined my offer today since I last minute decided to go to another school!

From what I've learned from a past student: each semester you have a different experience at a different placement that relates to what you are learning that semester. Most likely it will follow this order: long term care, medicine, surgical unit, mental health/community, paediatrics, & consolidation.
For the final consolidation placement, you rank the placement you want. BUT there's a chance you wont get your 1st choice. Many people complain that they didnt get what they wanted, but others did get okay placements...
The location & quality varies depending where you are placed. The locations are mostly outside of the downtown hospitals. Some students get great placements and thus learn more skills than other students. it literally depends on pure luck that you get good placements.
