Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2019

Updated:   Published

Hello Everyone,

I am currently a third year York University student hoping to apply for second entry nursing at York

only next year (yes I am going through the strike).

Since applications open in November, I thought it would be best to get this forum started. I am hoping to get more insight into the program and I hope current and past nursing students would share their views on the program and how job searching went. Also, what nursing specialties do most York nursing graduates enter as I am hoping to get into public health. Furthermore, share your insights on Humber, McMaster, U of T, Trent, Queens, Western, Ottawa and Nippissing. (I think that is all) and don't forget to include your acceptance GPAs.

Does anyone know if UofT should have gotten in touch with us at this point if there was a problem with our application? (i.e. pre-req not accepted, another reference needed etc.) I've noticed on past forums that they have.

I've emailed them throughout the application process but can never seem to get a straight answer other than "we can not disclose [...] prior to application review]"

OMG! This is EXACTLY my issue when contacting them regarding my inquiries. I too have emailed them throughout the application process but all they ever give me in return is "we can not disclose blah blah blah". It's pretty disappointing considering other schools and programs have absolutely no problem looking into these matters for the students that are paying good money to apply to their program and have their questions answered.. ?

With all that said, I have a question if anyone can help me out here. I already emailed UofT but as I stated earlier, their responses suck and they haven't gotten back to me yet. But on the reference part of the supplementary application I made a mistake, I put in the emails of my academic referee, work referee and my own email...I did this because I stupidly tried to skip to the next part of the application and thought I could delete my email afterwards. This was before I knew who would be my reference so I didn't want to write down anyone's email yet. I'm not sure how they will handle this or how it will look to them so I asked them. But does anyone know if they would just ignore that since my actual referees are the ones who submitted a reference for me? I'm thinking this will be fine because under the "received" column on the referee page you can clearly see references were received from them but not from me which means I didn't try to give myself my own reference, haha. But I really don't know, if anyone can help me that would be great ?‍♀️

I think it'll be fine because they received the 2 references ?

That's a great GPA. Will you be accepting? When do you have to respond by? I have a 3.97/4.3 for my last 10 units at Queen's. This probably converts to around 3.82 ish on Western's 4.0 scale, I hope I have a chance!

Thanks! I have to accept by April 19th, not sure if I will yet. Your GPA is definitely competitive, I wish you good luck!

I also think you'll be fine because it said they will review all complete applications that were submitted before the deadline. In the case for example you emailed two referees and only one responded to qualify for the work referee, it's still complete even if the other one didn't respond but the form was still sent out. Maybe they have so many applicants they don't have enough time to go through all the non-respondent referees or they ignore them because they know that not all referees return references. What probably would jeopardize your app is if you actually completed a reference for yourself (which you didn't).

Wished they gave you a clear answer, even if it's part of the application process. Fingers crossed it's fine for you!

For all those who applied to UofT, how are you guys feeling? I keep checking the calendar and I'm nervous but eagerly waiting for April to arrive!!!

UofT typically sends out their decisions later in April/early May right? I think thats what I read on forums from previous years ?

That's so true!!! What you said makes so much sense!! Thank you for taking the time to write this!!! Your response is so helpful and it gives me hope LOL!! Yeah I wish they would give a better answer than something vague like that, really sucks that they don't care lol. Thank you anyways!!!?

Ugh I'm feeling SUPER DUPER nervous...I keep checking the calendar everyday too omg its so annoying. I just hate the wait! And whats so annoying is they send out emails from April-late June so you're really waiting a while to hear back...

From what I read on their FAQs page and their "admission review process" they start late March/early April and go all the way till end of June

Yeah, I'm pretty sure last year they sent out the first round of acceptances on April 6th. I'm assuming that only their top applicants get accepted then though. That's coming up so soon though!
