Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2019

Updated:   Published

Hello Everyone,

I am currently a third year York University student hoping to apply for second entry nursing at York

only next year (yes I am going through the strike).

Since applications open in November, I thought it would be best to get this forum started. I am hoping to get more insight into the program and I hope current and past nursing students would share their views on the program and how job searching went. Also, what nursing specialties do most York nursing graduates enter as I am hoping to get into public health. Furthermore, share your insights on Humber, McMaster, U of T, Trent, Queens, Western, Ottawa and Nippissing. (I think that is all) and don't forget to include your acceptance GPAs.

Hey all!

I've been lurking for a while but figured I should post. I've received an offer from Queen's but am waiting to hear from Trent before I make my decision. I am leaning towards Queen's though. Is anyone able to compare the two programs?

Thanks

Since March 21st is the date for people who got the first round of acceptances for Western to accept or decline, does that mean more will be going out tomorrow?

I sure hope so. I be been patiently waiting for this day to pass, fingers crossed for both of us!

I applied to all three nursing programs at Western (four year programs at the Western and Fanshawe sites, as well as the CTF program) and just received acceptances for the four year programs. Perhaps CTF acceptances will be rolling out soon? My fingers are crossed for everyone!

Just received an offer from Western!

Amazing congrats! What was your GPA for your last 10 units?

3.9 GPA!

Does anyone know if UofT should have gotten in touch with us at this point if there was a problem with our application? (i.e. pre-req not accepted, another reference needed etc.) I've noticed on past forums that they have.

I've emailed them throughout the application process but can never seem to get a straight answer other than "we can not disclose [...] prior to application review]"

That's a great GPA. Will you be accepting? When do you have to respond by? I have a 3.97/4.3 for my last 10 units at Queen's. This probably converts to around 3.82 ish on Western's 4.0 scale, I hope I have a chance!

Anyone know how Western calculates the gpa for acceptances in terms of pre-reqs? Ie if you did, say, 2 courses in physiology outside of the last 10 credits, do they include it into the gpa ABOVE the 10 credits (so 11 credits total) or would they take away 1 credit from the last 10 credits and replace it with the pre-req credits? Sorry if this is confusing ?

I'm not sure. I worked in admissions at UofT for another program though and we waited until we had all our acceptances to decline everyone, even if their application wasn't complete. However, I did hear from McMaster a week ago saying they won't accept my physiology course.

^ Thanks so much for this @JessBeeee!

So weird how UofT won't formally reject you until the very end... even if your application is incomplete/you don't have the sufficient pre-reqs etc. (Kinda wish they would just tell us right off the bat like McMaster/Western)

A few years ago I know UofT would get in touch with students mid-March if they needed another referee's opinion of you.

Either way this info was super helpful - thanks for responding!

Has western rejected anyone
