I'm an RPN to BScN student through the Conestoga/McMaster steam. Please let me know if you have any specific questions ?
Awesome! I have a few questions if you don't mind answering.
-How was admission process like? Casper test? GPA?
-How is first year? Do you enjoy PBL thus far?
-Are you commuting or do you live nearby? I live in Toronto and if I do get in, I'd probably drive from Toronto, not sure if it's worth it.
Hi Toaster2k18,
I love to answer questions, no problem!
I live in Kitchener/Waterloo so attending the Co-Mac program was my top choice and the drive is short which I really like.
I chose McMaster because I did my diploma program with Conestoga College and these schools are affiliated. I do love that MAC is known for nursing research and that interests me.
I can understand how living in Toronto you may want to do the bridge program there. I know UOIT is a great school, so I don't think you can go wrong in making your decision ?
Now to answer your questions: The admission process for me was slightly confusing as McMaster uses your GPA, Casper and CNO registration to decide on your admission status. In past years the GPA cut off was 84%. Anyone who had under this grade was immediately disregarded. Every year the GPA changes based on the pool of applicants. Not only is GPA important but it is worth only 60% of your admissions application, the other 40% is your Casper score. Many strong academic applicants did not end up getting accepted because of their low Casper scores.
I know people who are fabulous RPNs working in hospitals and still not get accepted to McMaster bridge program based on their Casper scores. So studying for the Casper test is beneficial, I personally paid twice for a practice test just to make sure I knew how the test was going to look and practice my timely responses.
My first year in the RPN to BScN program at MAC has been a transition to say the least. The program really is Self Directed, and students are expected to spend 2-3 hours outside of class for readings, ect.
PBL is not a favourite course for many people, I find the first year has been review from PN, but it is a mandatory class. We have about 2 or 3 mandatory classes and week, then the rest of classes/lectures are optional. First year is the most challenging/busy but the next two years it should get easier they say lol Lets hope!
Thank you so much for your reply! Where did you do practice tests for casper? I'd like to do them also and do not mind paying for it. They implemented a new requirement now (Glad I took them before haha). They now require for 2020:
English (ENG4U) or equivalent (COMM1085 and COMM1200)
One (1) Grade 12 Mathematics course from the following: Advanced Functions (MHF4U) OR Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) OR Mathematics of Data Management (MDM4U) or equivalent (MATH1177 and MATH1185
Hi I'm thinking to apply to Ontario tech uni for rpn to rn bridging fall2020 as well but I will have to travel all the way from Oakville not sure if the travelling is worth it.
May I ask is Ontario tech close to home for you why you really want to go there?
But I'm thinking to apply to mohawk/McMaster since I completed my rpn at mohawk as well as George brown /trent and mohawk/Conestoga as back ups
I live in Oshawa so yes Ontario Tech is close to me. Oakville to Oshawa is a pretty far commute. Mo-Mac and GB/Trent seems to be the closest choices for Oakville. Centennial/Ryerson isn’t a bad commute if you can get through the travelling for those 2 semesters at Centennial and then you’ll be downtown at Ryerson for the last 2 years.
@Kim thanks for honest opinion I was thinking the travelling to Oshawa would be too far as well and tiring.
How does centennial/ryer program works. So after completing the one year bridging at centennial through OCAS paying the $95. Then , I have to pay another $120 again through QUAC to apply to ryerson Oh dear I'm confused??
Yes I did not like that I had to apply again. One thing that drew me to Ontario Tech (the same as Mo-Mac and Conestoga/Mc)is once you’re in, you’re in until the end (obviously as long as you keep a passing grade). Gives me a peace of mind. I did not want to end up with a useless bridging certificate.

Anyone applying to any RPN-RN bridging programs for Fall 2020?
I applied to Ontario Tech University (formerly UOIT). I’m thinking of applying to George Brown/Trent, Conestoga/McMaster and Mohawk/McMaster as backups but I really want UOIT.
