Ontario BScN Accelerated Program Fall 2022

Updated:   Published

Hello future nursing students,

I just wanted to make a post as we enter the new academic year, and more importantly the next admission cycle. Hopefully through this post we can all share our admission experiences, concerns, and achievements.

To begin with, I am currently a University of Toronto student completing my final year! I am hoping to apply to UBC, UofT, Nipissing, Western, and Trent. Just waiting on applications to open up! I am slightly worried I may not get in because admission is so competitive, and seeing those with 3.9+ not get in can be very scary.

How about you? Are you excited for the new school year? Any concerns for the admission process? Let's get through this together

Queens does require a minimum  of c- in pre reqs in order to apply, but I completely messed up and don’t meet the grade require but still passed the course. However on my conditional offer it did not mention anything about maintaining a certain grade for pre-reqs. Would you recommend emailing them and asking them about this considering I have all the other pre reqs and way above the required grade for each.

I would email because you need a grade of c- in prereqs to apply. That suggests that it is necessary for you to have gotten over a c-, even if it’s not in their conditional offer letter. And you would have to send in a final transcript - when they check and to see that you’ve completed the prereq they’ll also see the grade. It’s probably better to get on top of it now since this could be a problem for your admission. Even though you have all the other prereqs and a good overall GPA, since they stated a threshold you need to have in all your prereqs pretty explicitly, it might be an issue. Think of it this way - they probably do care that you have a certain grade in that course because they outlined what you need in it. Also, because it’s a compressed program, they need you to have a passing grade in certain prereq courses so that you can actually complete a nursing degree in two years (but passing grades for nursing or medical programs are often higher cutoffs like a c- as opposed to another programs D-).

if you email, they might be able to find a way around this or set up a plan for you. Also, maybe they actually don’t care and can look past it but with it being such a competitive program, I’d imagine that’s less likely. Best to find out early either way! Goodluck!

Hey guys, torn between Western and McMaster. Leaning towards Mac but really tough call, anyone in same boat or have tips on why one would choose one over the other? Thanks!

I had a hard time deciding between those as well. I personally went mac over western purely because more placement hours and they start earlier (approx 300 more and they start in term 2 instead of 3). Also PBL!! For me its also closer to home. Consolidation with no lectures is a nice feature of western tho and course-structure wise they're basically identical with a few minor differences. Congrats on all your offers ?

Does anyone know if Uoft acceptances are handed out based on GPA (The higher the GPA the earlier the acceptance) ?
