online RN to BSN - any opinions?

U.S.A. Ohio

Hey guys!

I'm looking for some guidance here. I'm looking to go RN to BSN right now, and thinking that online is for me.. I work full time, and have a very young daughter at home. Going to class multiple times a week, even once, will be pretty rough.

Any opinions? I'm looking at university of phoenix...... I'm scared that an online degree is still considered "not as good", but I already have an associates, and a current license.

Please - any and all advice is well appreciated in advance!

indiana weslyan has a good online RN to BSN I had a couple instructors that went there and they seem to be getting jobs just fine! Also Kettering medical Center has one and if you work for them as an RN its very discounted, around 5-6k. Not sure where you live though.

plus they have a partnership with Ohio Health which makes me feel very safe that this degree will be looked on favorably. My DON graduated from there and she also loved it.:redbeathe

Where did you hear that? As an Ohio Health employee, I've not heard that and the nurses on my floor haven't either. I know we have partnerships with Capital University, Columbus State, and University online, but I've heard nothing about the University of Phoenix and I've talked to a number of people about going back to school through Ohio Health for tuition assistance and such. I'd love to know if I have more options that nobody appears to be aware of.

Did my BSN online through Wright State University in Dayton Ohio. Was a great experience. Also very nice because I was able to take some of my support courses like art, sociology through Sinclair Community College also online and those classes were very inexpensive (like around $70.00 per credit hour). I would recommend it!

Guys,

South university's enrollement officers called my friend and told her if she was interested in the Adult practitoner online program. She quickly agreed, got all her recommendations and everything and she got accepted. WRONG....... They enrolled her into the Nurse Educator program and then told her that the Adult practitoner program was still under review and that it wasn't going to have one. So to all. If you applied to south university Adult practitioner program and got in call and ask what program are you enrolled in.

The Ohio State University also has an RN to BSN program that is online. That's where I will be applying to after I finish at Tri-C. Only because I'm alread an Ohio State alumni. And really don't want to take any more GEC courses.:)

Ok... I am so sick of these people...they were pressuring me too to finish my financial aid for the NP program..then when I slowed down with sending the stuff in they called to tell me the NP prog was under review too but I should still enroll in the RN-BSN prog. The pressure that they put you under is too suspicioous. If a school wants you that bad..to be harassing youand all (even inappropriate times of the day) then something is wrong. I had to tell them today to leave me alone, and if I wanted to join I will let them know. I don't get that excited about an easy entry program so much that I fall for stupidity...

Please watch out for this school..I got a bad feeling about it

what school was that sjoy?

I got harrassed by university of Phoenix when I decided not to go. They promised it would not cost me a penny out of pocket to start, and they pressured me to sign up for the next class (1 week away) and then --- oh yeah, we need $700+ to start. I said no way...... then they started calling, sending emails all day, every day for a good month!!!

I ended up at Indiana Wesleyan, and absolutely love it! Its only half the price of phoenix, and haven't dug into my pocket once! :redpinkhe

To those questioning Ohio University RN-BSN...it is awesome! Very great staff and great set-up for nursing classes. I am on my 5th class now and it is very reasonably priced if you are an Ohio Health, or other participating organization, associate. All in all, nursing course are $117/cr hr and gen ed classes are $87/cr hr. This is even cheaper than my ADN in total. It is advertised on their website that nursing courses, alone, if all of your gen ed classes are completed, can be completed in one year and will cost $5,850. Of course, once you figure up textbooks, other fees and gen ed classes, it is more, but for the cost per cr hr, it cannot be beat! I highly recommend anyone in the Ohio Health family to look into it! I was the first one at my facility to start classes, and once everyone else found out, we had about 30 other staff sign up. Have not heard of one complaint yet!

Do you have the information about prerequisites & how long it takes to complete the course in total?

Thanks : )
