USF MSN-CNL non-nurse summer 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello everyone! I am currently waitlisted in the spring 2017 cohort starting in Jan for the USF MSN-CNL non-nurse cohort 23, but I wanted to start a thread for those of you applying to the summer 2017 semester because if I don't get off the waitlist I will be reapplying for summer, and if I do get off the waitlist I can help you all with info on how the process works and what to expect. Either way, since I am going through it right now, I hope to be able to help new applicants. This time can be very stressful. Who all out there is applying?

I also just read your guys' stats and I know I shouldn't compare myself, but both of your guys' stats are outstanding. It really is difficult to understand what more we could have done and I am really comforted by the fact that it's not just me that felt this way!

I do remember going to an info session and I do remember Jenny? talking about emotional maturity and life experiences taken into account. A part of me feels like I probably could use a bit more of both, haha. I am definitely eager for more responsibilities and to be accepted into any program as well, so I probably should work on my patience lol.

*sighhh* yes! I forgot to mention I became a mother at 18 years old and put myself through 6 years of college while working 3 jobs as well as all the other stuff I told you about in my stats/experience comment. I talked a little about this in my personal statement and how my daughter (who is now 7) has been a huge part of my motivation. I was a single mom until I met my husband when my daughter was 3, so a lot of this I did on my own. I'm proud of how far I've come, but it is discouraging to really give your all to something and not get the result you've worked so hard for, for so many years. I'm sure you both are feeling the exact same way. All I can say is through difficult times we can use the fuel to keep pushing harder for our goals. I was sad, then I was mad, and now I'm just determined to move on and purse other programs!

@Aftonheistand, that is incredible! I would be so proud of myself with or without the admission to the program! You definitely have the makings of becoming a great nurse. I absolutely understand that feeling of rejection. Totally feels disheartening and is definitely a tough pill to swallow, but hey, there are also other great programs in the Bay Area! My supervisor actually spoke highly of SMU's ABSN over a few other programs before I even heard of my admissions status. Took me a couple days too to finally accept, "it's okay! there's more opportunities out there!" But that feeling of not being enough definitely stings like no other. **side note- I'm having a hard time trying to PM you about the HESI, lol, do you know if there's another way?

@made90 I also feel like I got too personal on my personal statement as well.. and man I thought my PS was a masterpiece hahahaha. I would seriously love to bounce ideas back and forth!

@nana where did you take pathophysiology and pharmacology? I'm thinking of applying to the summer 2017 start for the ABSN and would need to take those two this spring in that case. I'm thinking of just taking them at SMU where they offer them but it's so expensive and I may go somewhere else so I don't want to waste money! Being on the waitlist sucks because I have to move forward and spend money taking more classes/exams before it's too late for this cycle, but it may be a waste if I get off the waitlist! Haha

Hi all,

I'm also going to be applying for the Summer 2017 term for this program! It's nice to meet you all! :) @afton, you have an amazing story! Thanks for sharing that! I'm excited to be working on this application. I just put together my personal statement this past weekend. I'm trying to keep it cool and stay level-headed but feeling overwhelmed at the same time!

Welcome @Ckleo! And thank you!:) Is this your first time apply to nursing programs? What are your background/stats? Thank you for joining in the convo! These application cycles are so stressful, so it's nice to have others to support eachother!

I am patiently waiting to see if I get off the waitlist for the spring USF cohort, but am planning on submitting apps for Samuel Merritt this month! Where else are you applying?

Afton you have an amazing background. The day that I found out I was seriously so sad, but I have come to terms to be okay with graduate committee admission. Everything happens for a reason. Whatever term and program we do get accepted its because it is the right time for us. In the mean time we can try our best to gain more experience and polish our application.

I think you are right nana510 about the sense of maturity. Sometimes It can be difficult to transfer that into a written statement though.

Also pathophysiology and pharmacology can only be taken at Samuel Merritt?

Yes! This is going to be by first time applying to nursing programs. It took awhile for me to figure out a career path until nursing! I have 3+ years in clinical research at a neurodegenerative imaging research lab, and I've been volunteering in the Oncology/Dementia/Acute Care for the Elderly unit at the VA since April. I have a BA in Psychology. I'm also taking night/online classes for my prereqs at CCSF. I'm also planning on applying to Samuel Merritt ABSN for Fall 2017.

@made90 you can take pathophysiology and pharm at any of the approved colleges on their website, but after looking at them it seems very difficult to go through the process of signing up as a new student and all the extra stuff, as well as navigating each schools website to figure out how much the classes cost and how to enroll. I opted to sign up for the ones at Samuel Merritt (which are online). I decided to register to take them in spring 2017(it goes from Jan-March) because I'm actually going to apply to the ABSN summer 2017 start at the San Mateo campus because you can apply with pending pre reques that will be done in spring. I figure even if I don't go the ABSN route, taking patho and pharm will only help me as I enter into another program and take those classes!

That's a good idea! it also gives you a wider selection of programs to apply to.

Hi there everyone! I'm currently waitlisted too for the spring 2017 track, so if I don't get in I'll be reapplying for summer 2017 also. I am also taking the HESI Nov. 22nd for SMU! @nana510 could I also ask you how that exam was for you? Thank you!
