Direct Entry of nursing Fall 2018 at Simmons

Nursing Students School Programs

Hi everyone,

I didnt see a forum for this so I thought I would start one. I applied to Simmons College Direct Entry for fall of 2018. I was reading older threads and it seems like people dont hear back until mid january

Hi! I got accepted to the Simmons program and I have two questions:

Were you or any of your classmates able to work part time while in the RN part of the program ? I want to get my CNA certification and work while getting my RN at Simmons if that's possible.

Where can I find the curriculumand what courses we will be taking? Im wondering if there's any courses I should take this summer to prepare for the fall, I heard there's advanced pathophysiology which I feel like I would need to take pathophysiology first in order to do well.

Thanks!!!

After you finish the first semester, the school issues you a CNA certification as our coursework and clinical experience is equivalent to that of a CNA. So don't bother paying for a separate certification. Many of my classmates worked as CNAs for the rest of the RN portion and other kept working their jobs before. It's doable.

The first semester, you guys will be taking Patho, Pharmocology I, MedSurg 1, and Fundamentals. Don't stress about signing up for classes now, it's still to early for you guys. Simmons will send an email when everything is ready. For now, just relax--go on vacation to clear your mind for the semester. Pathophysiology is very doable as the prof, Sarah Volkman is an excellent lecturer.

Thank you so much!! Your advice is very helpful.

When you say study on Evolve. Do you mean they do HESI at Simmons?

I don't know what HESI is, so no, Simmons does do it lol. We use Evolve practice questions to help us study of tests, it was particularly helpful in Patho, Med Surg, Pharm, Psy, Maternity, & Community.

Most assignments will be from other software (ATI, the program that comes with your fundamentals package--unfortunately you guys do have to pay for it) and Simmons Moodle website.

Thank you RnsoonNP!

FYI, the practice questions on Evolve are free. Just make an account, add respective textbooks into your catalog/cart & complete the "purchase" (should be free)

"Simmons does NOT do it" sorry for the typo

I understood, thanks.

Did you have class everyday RNsoonNP ?

Your schedule will vary depending on where you are placed for clinical. No you don't have classes everyday, at most, you will be on campus 2-3x a week. But you may have clinical on your off-days.

FYI for the first 2 semesters, Simmons does all your clinical placements. They send out a survey asking for your preferred days/times and your available mode of transportations.

Thanks for answering, I appreciate!
