Direct Entry of nursing Fall 2018 at Simmons

Published

Hi everyone,

I didnt see a forum for this so I thought I would start one. I applied to Simmons College Direct Entry for fall of 2018. I was reading older threads and it seems like people dont hear back until mid january

I will be declining my spot at Simmons today and hopefully that opens up a spot for one of you on the waitlist!

Do you mind sharing why you are declining? Does it has to do with the school?

I really want to do pediatrics and I heard from someone who goes there that there is very little pediatrics in the program. I'm instead accepting at BC for PNP!

Thank you very much for sharing! Good luck at BC!!

any idea when waitlisted people will hear about openings?

Hi everyone, congrats to all of you who were accepted to Simmons!!! Fingers-crossed for those who are wait-listed, and for those who weren't accepted--try again next year. I was rejected the first year I applied but got accepted the second time!

I just got my RN this February and am doing the FNP part-time. Please post any questions you guys may have =)

Since I am waitlisted is it hopeless for me to wait then? There's no chance then?

How was the RN portion of the program? can you describe a regukar week at school? How do like the program so far?? What don t you like about it??

Thanks for your help!!

if I don't get into simmons should I go to Regis?

Overall, I had a great overall experience in the RN portion. There are some goods and bads like every other school, and your experience may vary depending on the professor you get. But Simmons has a 100% NCLEX pass rate (including my class!!) compared to all other direct-entry programs.

There is a lot a independent work (SOAP notes, ugh) and studying outside of the classroom. Especially the first semester, you may feel stressed and overwhelmed, but once you get the groove of things-it's very doable. All the exams I had are very fair (synthesis had the toughest exams), I suggest thoroughly studying the PP slides, doing practice questions on Evolve and text, and using assigned readings for reinforcement. If you need extra help, Simmons has dedicated group studies for nurses and tutoring (I never went, but some of my classmates found it super helpful).

Also, enjoy the experience. You will learn ALOT and make friendships that will last a lifetime (not to mention be eachothers support system). Having a FB group is super helpful. :) enjoy guys!

hi! I am accepted into simmons for the fall of 2018 and am trying to make a decision between simmons in boston and Samuel Merritt University in oakland. I was really excited about simmons but I got really scared when I googled the school and read all of these terrible reviews, but I think it was about the online program. does anyone have any insight about this?

I would say attend the open houses of both schools and tour the campus to see which one is a better fit for you.

I'm from Boston and know a lot about the schools around here. Simmons does not have superb reputation for their undergraduate programs, but has an excellent reputation for their graduate programs-especially their nursing program. When I do my clinicals, all the nurses I've work with always tell us "Simmons nursing students are the best compared to ... " or "it's a great nursing school". And we also have a 100% NCLEX pass rate, which separates us from most other direct-entry programs
