Cal State San Marcos ABSN Spring 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Hey all, just wondering who is applying to the Spring cohort at CSUSM. I actually applied to Fall and was accepted but had to defer to get better situated for the move. It worked out too because this is the cohort that is at the main campus, which I greatly prefer.

I live in Los Angeles now so looking forward to life in a beach town, even though we'll be studying non stop haha. If anyone has any questions about the application process let me know. I had 36 points so should be good, but am considering retaking the TEAs exam.

Thanks! So, for that first semester, we are only taking 3 classes? How much time did you spend on campus during the first semester?

I'm currently in the program. You'll start clinical rotations a few weeks into your second semester. Your first semester is more pre-nursing still and consists of nutrition, bioethics, and anthropology.

The only exception to being excused from the first three classes during the first semester is if you have taken them at CSUSM, except nutrition. Nutrition can be transferred in from other schools if it meets the requirements; however, anthropology and bioethics must have been taking at CSUSM in your previous undergrad, if you went to CSUSM. If not, you'll have to take them during first semester.

I started in the summer so it was different. Fall and spring are more similar - the current cohort in semester 1 this fall is on campus Tuesday from 1pm-7:30pm and Thursdays 2:30pm-5:20pm.

Thanks for this info! Very helpful. Were you able to go to any sort of orientation before classes began and if so would you recommend doing the same?

Yes, there is a mandatory orientation the week before classes start that is about 6 hours.

Hello, appreciate your help!

I was wondering for housing, what is the best way to go about looking for housing?

Does anyone know if we will be assigned a specific academic counselor, and when?

When you apply you're assigned an advisor. If and when you start, you'll them be assigned a different advisor.

Hello All,

May I ask how many points you applied with for those who have gotten an acceptance letter? I just want to see my chance of getting in if there is a second wave of acceptance. I am applying with a total points of 32. Hopefully, this will give all other applicants an idea of their chances of getting in during the second wave.

Thank you all

Hi there,

I had 39 points.

Good luck to everyone!

My points were in the 40s. Good luck! I know someone who got into the fall cohort with 28 but I know the spring is more competitive.

I actually emailed my advisor about the orientation date since I'll be out of town part of January. She said it should be the Friday before classes begin (the 18th) but I don't think it's confirmed.

That is usually when they try to do it; however, it's always subject to change.
