Hey all, just wondering who is applying to the Spring cohort at CSUSM. I actually applied to Fall and was accepted but had to defer to get better situated for the move. It worked out too because this is the cohort that is at the main campus, which I greatly prefer.

I live in Los Angeles now so looking forward to life in a beach town, even though we'll be studying non stop haha. If anyone has any questions about the application process let me know. I had 36 points so should be good, but am considering retaking the TEAs exam.

If you don't mind me asking what is the interest rate for the sallie Mae loans like? And also, are they unsunsidized loans? Thanks againn

Yes they're unsubsidized. I have 6.25% for fixed interest but it can vary with how much your borrowing and your credit score.

You can complete your FAFSA now, pick CSUSM, second bachelors degree, and you'll be considered an undergraduate junior (3rd year) for the FAFSA.

As far as enrollment, the Extended Learning Office will automatically enroll you in all of your classes, so there is no need for you to actually enroll.

As it gets closer to orientation, the School or Nursing will send you information regarding a website called Complio, which is where you will have your background check conducted and upload documents including immunizations. The first semester is pre-nursing, so you won't be in the lab, wearing scrubs, or going to the clinical site until your second semester. Therefore, a lot of these things are completed during your first semester.

As for right now, just sit tight until you receive an email from the School of Nursing regarding your next steps. Like I mentioned, there really is no need for anything to be done until it gets closer to second semester when you'll actually be in the lab and at clinical sites. The second semester is considered the "first nursing semester" because it is when you have Fundamentals.

I would highly recommend making a Facebook account, even if you just use it for school, because a lot of valuable information is shared in the cohort Facebook groups, including textbook info, info from the Student Nurse Association (SNA), correspondence between cohort members, etc.

You can apply for grants and scholarships but that's completely separate from your FAFSA and financial aid.

The most you will receive for federal financial aid (loans through the government) is $12,500 per year, divided into Spring and Fall (so about $6,250 per semester). This is not enough to cover the semester, so almost everyone in my cohort is taking out some form of private student loan in additional to federal student loans. I went with SallieMae as they have had the best interest rates. The program is roughly $50,000 and federal student loans for two years will only cover up to $25,000.

You do not receive any financial aid for summer, so plan accordingly. My private student loans I receive are also disbursed spring and fall, not summer. I use my private student loans to cover the excess costs for each semester (since federal doesn't cover all of it), to cover living expenses, and to cover summer tuition.

Thanks @SurfCA40 Does anyone know when we will know which days we have class for the first semester? It seems like that first semester is relatively light so I'm hoping to plan to possibly work a few hours per week and I also have to figure out childcare. Do we find out schedules sometime in December?

Honestly, you'll probably get your schedule a week or two prior to class starting. That's been pretty normal for most cohorts. Expect to probably be on campus two days per week for your first semester. There should be plenty of free time to keep working the first semester.

I had 41 points. I applied after the priority deadline so I didn't make it into the first wave.

Hi, all! I just found out I've been admitted for the spring 2019 ABSN cohort. There was some drama with my admissions process--I had 38 points but a glitch in the system caused my application to be marked as incomplete, so my application wasn't looked at or considered. Luckily, the mistake was rectified and I was able to secure a spot in the second round of acceptances!

I'll be joining y'all in June as I've already taken the first semester courses while completing my BA at CSUSM. I'd love to join the Facebook groups so I can start to get to know everyone, and stay updated on everything--how do I go about joining?

So excited to be starting this journey with you all, and looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hi! Just curious, because I think I'm having the same issue. Did you have to call them about your application, or they reached out to you about the issue?

I reached out immediately after the first round of acceptances because I knew based on others' point values that I should have been offered admission in the first round. They were helpful and apologetic. Have you gotten your official points eval yet?
