Aspen or Capella for MSN

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello,

I'm a nurse with my BSN looking into online MSN programs. I'm torn between Capella and Aspen. Which one do you recommend? What was your experience or what have you heard? How are classes structured?

Specializes in OB-Gyn/Primary Care/Ambulatory Leadership.

Neither. Capella is a for-profit and not considered to be very reputable. Aspen, if I recall correctly, has some accreditation issues (I think they don't have ACEN or CCNE accreditation, whichever one applies to grad schools).

Aspen is also for-profit, isn't it?

Specializes in PMHNP.

Depending on the MSN track your want has been great in my experience in their RN to BSN program

I attended both Capella and Aspen. I found Capella to be good, but expensive. I loved that Aspen was affordable, flexible, and yet it has CCNE accreditation. It does not matter if it is set up as a for-profit, as long as they are not charging the student high costs. I also learned a lot more about nursing, myself, and leadership from Aspen.

I do medically intensive pediatric homecare. A woman I used to work with did the RN to MSN flexpath program and got a job at st. Francis hospital afterwards on the peds floor. Now I cant say wether or not she would have gotten that job anyway. But, I can say that she thought the degree got her that job.
