I am currently looking at online NP schools and was looking for suggestions/advice from current students. I live in Maryland and am looking for a program I can work full time and will make the clinical placements for me.

Thanks!

You won't find many online schools (if any) that will find preceptors for you unless you live in the local area.

There might be local brick and mortar school with a hybrid option where you can work full time, but it is very location dependent. Setting up clinicals varies wildy but most NPs school do NOT set up clinicals and for online programs it is even lower.

If that is the case do you have any recommendations for a online program?

Are you willing budge on them setting up preceptors? Otherwise not many options come to mind. It's just not realistic to attend an online school based in Texas but expect them to set up preceptors in Maryland. Make sense?

Don't quote me but I think Georgetown University (online) may find preceptors for you but they are VERY expensive. $85,000 range but it is in your area so travel is easier.

Worth giving them a call.

Yes that's what I meant by if that's the case. Lol I was looking at Georgetown but like you said they are pretty expensive. I mean I would go to in person to JHSON before Georgetown. I was looking at Simmons and Chamberlain but didn't know of my other online programs.

There's a ton of online programs. Are you looking for ACNP, FNP, psych?

I am looking at FNP

Just google online FNP programs, I'm serious there are tons out there. Biggest thing is to make sure there is clinical approval in your state for the state the school is located in. Thing is a huge deal and many schools only have approval in a few states because the process is long and has cost involved.

Without mentioning for profits, Simmons, South Alabama, UAB, Marysville, Southern Indiana etc are some of the common ones.

I think you will have to budge on the preceptor thing..... It's a hassle but it can be done

Above I said I would. I'm looking for current students to give me thoughts on their online programs.

Frontier Nursing University is a great program

I personally would not want to attach my name to frontier or university of Phoenix etc..... For job searching purposes alone. Most schools offer most of the classes online just search the universities in your area. One thing to know is that these classes are the real deal..... It was a full time job taking some of these classes. Most of my childless classmates worked prn because they could afford to..... Working part time after the first year was all I could manage.
