Online FNP in North Carolina

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone else has been in my situation. I know NC has special requirements about who they allow to come into the state education wise. I am aware that UNC, Wilmington, ECU, Duke and Chapel Hill all offer local programs that are online, and in some cases hybrid, but I am looking for other options as well. Does anyone know of any other online programs out of state which accept students from NC? Or perhaps other schools in NC?

I have a 3.8 in my BSN coursework, so I was hoping to find a school that would waive the GRE requirement for a high GPA. I know some do, but haven't found one in NC. I was hoping I might get lucky.

The NCBON requires out of state schools to be registered with the University of North Carolina system before students can do clinicals within the state from what I understand. And it looks like the TN RODP is not registered with the program. It has nothing to do with a compact license, or RN license at all. The information is on the NC BON website

This is true, and it's a general academic requirement within the state, nothing to do with nursing specifically and nothing the NC BON has anything to do with, or any control over.

I guess mine was, and it is a good thing because I didn't ask anyone at all. I left everything to my school, my preceptors, and me. My school was in NJ, and there are two of us from that same school living and doing clinical here in NC. How would the NCBON know you were doing clinical at a private medical practice which is a business and under no one's control and why would the doc care what the BON says? Just curious. I just checked, and Duke is not listed as one of the UNC system schools, but Duke has a NP and DNP programs among all their other programs. I registered to take the cert exam with the certifying body of my choice, but the BON had nothing to do with that. I did have to register with the NCBON to practice here after passing the exam, but if you do not plan to practice here, your results can be sent to any state you choose. I had my results sent to three states just in case I moved later on. It would be important to know if the NCBON would not approve your registration nor approval to practice after you get certified. Maybe you did this, but call the BON and ask them for clarification. NC is not as progressive as I thought and would really prefer, and it has a ways to go re Nurse Practice Act too. Others on this site can attest to that and have more experience practicing in this state. Good luck.

Just saw on FNU's (Frontier) Facebook page that they are now able to accept NC applicants!!! I'm so excited!!! It's about time the Board of a Governors let them know. I think they can only accept MSN and Post Masters certificates for now, but that's fine with me!!! After a little over 1.5 years they are finally approved by the UNC Board of Governors.

Barinbass, Would you be willing to message me or email me [email protected] where you were able to find preceptors? also, how did you like the program?

ANY information I can get from anyone about an online NP program would be great. I live in NC and am having the hardest time deciding on which program!

Be VERY careful about choosing a school outside of NC. I have 2 friends that had the worst time getting credit for out of state schools and clinicals. One woman had to go to Ohio and complete her clinical in that state for it to count. NC is REALLY weird.

Why don't you want a NC program. There are lots of good ones here.
