On-Set Movie Nursing Jobs

Published

Does anyone know how to find info on nursing jobs on movie sets and how to apply for them?

I am so glad you asked that! My dh and I are both RNS and he and I had been talking about some of those jobs like the one you asked about and also cruise ship nursing. Not that we would go, or could, since we have 2 sons in school, but it would be cool. Especially the on set nurse.

I've only known of movie sets hiring paramedics but not nurses. I think the only thing they worry about in a set is the actor or extra being on a life threatening situation. Besides if something like that were to happen, wouldn't a nurse have to call a paramedic and wait for the ambulance to get there? I believe they don't hire nurses because is feasible to have the paramedics with their units already there.

I know of at least one movie that hired nurses: the new James Bond. I saw it last week and stayed through the credits. Towards the end I saw "Movie Nurses" and then 2 names. I think I know my true calling now :)

I want to know more!! Very cool!

I did a little searching and found a link for working with Sony Pictures:

It doesn't look like any nursing positions are open right now, but you can keep checking.

there are nursing positions avaliable on sets. the "lot" ususally has at least 1 nurse on. from what i know. i was in CA and got to do a behind the scenes tour on a big movie lot there, my friend at the time was convinced she would be a set nurse. lol..weird....she failed nursing school....

I know, isnt it?! I probably would never even try to do something like that, but my dh who is also a nurse and I read something like that and just thought "Wow, can you believe it? Too cool!"

Beats passing out laxatives of choice on a medical floor!!

I asked about this in the 'famous nurse' thread. Sounds like a great job. I know what I'll be looking to do 10 years from now....

Newnurse2008...what are the requirements to have such a job? What is the average length of this position? Pay? Thanks so much. Keep the info coming. I'm extremely interested! Thanks so much!

Another thing you can do if you have the 3 12's a week schedule is extra work. I do regular extra work on the show Army Wives & even played a nurse at a German military hospital. Very fun! Also, they sometimes have nurses who advise the crew how the hospital set should look & how the actors should act in medical situations. It's a fun hobby of mine!

Not sure it it is a state or local law, but in NY a RN must be present on the set when infants and minor children are part of the cast for films, televison shows, commercials and I *think* Broadway shows and such.

Being as that may, am sure there is an agency that supplies such work and or several nurses probably have the nook sewn up. After all it is not like there are that many productions going on all the time involving minors/infants, and given the costs involved one assumes the scenes using the infants/children are done first to get them out of the way, as opposed to hanging around all day which means not only paying the "actor" but the nurse as well.

Oh if it is during the school year, a tutor or arrangements have to be made for education as well.

Just as an aside, it is still common to cast twins when using infants, so if one gets tired or cranky during filming, it can be swapped out.
