Hi! I'm applying for nursing school at Redlands in El Reno this year, have lots of my basics done, but may not have enough points yet, so may have to go another year and finish up the rest of my sciences before I get in, but we'll see...I have my interview April 6th. My son and his girlfriend both go to UCO and she is applying for nursing there, small world lol! Shotnbum..could you tell me what the starting salary at Integris is? We've been there numerous times with our 4 boys (go figure--wrestling and judo--lots of ER visits!), and really like that hospital. Thanks!

Hello UCO nursing students! I graduated from UCO with my BSN. I could probably help you with whatever questions you may have. I currently work as a RN Recruitment Consultant for INTEGRIS in OKC. and love my job!

If you should ever need any help or have nursing questions...please dont hesitate to ask!:chuckle

Hello shotnbum (cute name), thanks for your reply. I don't know how long ago you graduated from UCO but if you can answer questions about what I can expect from clinicals (hours, days, hospitals,etc..), I would appreciate it. Also, how prepared did you feel after you graduated? Since, you work in recruitment are UCO graduates seen as assets?

One question about the Integris Extern position, (excuse me if this isn't your area), but the Integris website says: Candidates must have completed at least one semester of the associate's program and two semesters of the bachelor's program of an accredited registered nursing program. Why is that? Do ADNs have more clinical experience after one semester than BSNs? Sorry so many questions, thanks in advance!!!

MyReign,

To answer your questions.....The clinical times that UCO requires varies depending on which clinical rotation you are in. For example, when I was attending UCO, the critical care clinicals were two days per week. When I was in leadership, the clinicals were three days per week. The leadership clinicals were the longest as far as hour requirement on the "floor". I felt very prepared once I graduated. However, you will probably find as I did, that nursing school gives you a knowledge base but your experience base as an RN just begins when you graduate (obviously!). Nursing is a wonderfully rewarding profession that has allowed me to grow professionally each day.

As far as the INTEGRIS externship....I would like to talk to you about your specific questions. You can email me directly and I will address any questions you have about INTEGRIS.

I hope this helps...Good luck! UCO has a great Nursing school.

Thanks for your response. I have sent you a private msg.

:rotfl: Hello to all, I have been a nurse in Oklahoma for almost 4 years. While I was in nursing school I worked for Mercy PRN for their clinics (float pool - more flexible and more money). I also worked for Deaconess in the ER as a tech and I learned as much there as I did most of the time in school. Hats off to ER nurses, especially there ones at Deaconess.

I'm married, have one son, one cat, 2 budgies, 7 Zebra finches and a host of outdoor critters that I help nature take care of. (Only on the Oklahoma page will you see the word critter. J)

I currently have been working in Clinical Trial Research and have just passes the certification test in this field. I think that this may be my cup of tea. I make far more money than I could as an LPN on the floor, still get to use a lot of my nursing skills, work Monday thru Friday with normal hours and get to travel to a great number of places that I would not have seen other wise.

:nurse: I just found the Oklahoma Site today and look forward to hearing from more Oklahoma Nurses!

Hi! I'd be interested in more info on your time at Mercy, I'm supposed to start nursing school this fall if all goes well and I get accepted (find out early June). I talked to the recruiter at Mercy this week about working there in the clinics during school. Did you enjoy it? Which ones did you work in and how often did you get to work? I'm married too with 4 sons (all teenagers) and 2 puppies. Welcome to the site, you'll learn lots here!!!! :)

I was in the float pool and worked at sites in Yukon, Bethany, Edmond, Chandler, NW Expressway, May Ave, and a couple of others. I really enjoyed most of them except Chandler (since I live in Tuttle that is a long way to drive). They did pay for mileage and the hourly rate is higher since you don't have guaranteed hours or any benefits. It depended on the time of year. At the holidays and when people want to take off for vacation I worked a lot. You are on call, there were days someone would call in sick, I would get a call at 7am and decide at that time if I was going to work or not.

A lot will depend on your schedule for school, they will work around it.

I really did enjoy Mercy. They are a good place to work.

Good luck with school!

:balloons:

Thats nice to know that they are so flexible! What type of work did you do at these places? Thanks for all the info!

Hi to all the Oklahoma nurses and future nurses.

Also, belated Happy Nurse's Day!!!!

A little bit about myself. I work in Mustang and live in Yukon and go to school full time and work full time. Working on my pre-req's and plan to apply to OU School of Nursing in Jan '05. I currently have a 3.5 GPA and slowly raising that up. If anyone that has grad or attended OU SON could tell me what their stats were when they were accepted, that would help a lot. There are not too many forums that I have found anywhere else for Oklahoma Nurses. I'm excited to talk to everyone.

Really glad that there is a section for Oklahoma. I have learned some really useful and interesting things! I was wondering if anyone goes to Rose State. I am still working on my support and related. Hope to apply next term. Would love to swap stories and see how many that are on this board go to Rose! Chat later!

Hi yall, I've been in nursing for 5 years and I live in Tulsa. I'm a die-hard ER nurse. Thought I never would say that, but I am. It's got it's ups and down, but you diffently get a variety of people and situations. I would love to continue my education, but unfortunately, cost is a big factor. Would love to know about any scholorships out there. Thanks

Hi all,

i am from OK (Verden near Chickasha). Anyway, I'm going to nursing school in Colorado and wonder what the employment situation is in OKC. Are there are lots of jobs, any hiring bonuses, good benefits, etc?
