Doncha luv that euphemism? "Non-traditional" sounds so much better than "older than dirt." I have you beat and can't quite believe that I will be 52 in August, just before I start NS in September. Oh well--I really don't feel that old, and there's nothing I can do about the number.

We old fogies will definitely have to keep in touch, along with all the other newbies.

:coollook:

""Non-traditional" sounds so much better than "older than dirt." " HAH! Thanks for the laugh! :chuckle

I called the school when this was still just an idea bumping around in my head because I was concerned about my age and making a fool out of myself. I was told that us more mature types are usually the best students. (Still hoping I don't make a fool out of myself.)

Are you or anyone else out there going to be working while going to school? I have 2 part time jobs. One is a property management position that has no set schedule. Sometimes there is nothing that needs done for days on end but then all hell can break lose and I can spend an entire day at it. I'm debating on giving that job up but really hate to lose the income.

Yes, I work. I'm an IC (independent contractor) whose main job is teaching medical transcription. I work for a distance learning school (a really respectable one), and my hours are entirely flexible. I do put in about 35-40 hours a week though, and I figure I may have to cut back some when in NS. I managed during my pre-reqs, but it was hard to say the least. I also have one client for whom I transcribe medicolegal reports, but that is very part time. Sometimes I go for days with nothing from him, then I will get several hours' worth at once. The extra income is handy though, and who needs a tidy house anyway? As long as it's not actually a health hazard, a bit of dust and clutter can take up residence with me again in the fall. As for the rest, I figure I can wait another couple of years to get a life. LOL!

I have all my co-reqs done, so I will be able to concentrate solely on nursing classes. At our school that means that for the first semester there is just one class (albeit for 7 credits) as well as clinicals, so I'm hoping I can at least get as far as Christmas before I have to cut back on my work hours. We'll see. Having finally decided what I want to be when I grow up, I'm not going to jeopardize my chances for the sake of money. If we have to tighten our belts for a couple of years, so be it.
