OHSU 3 Year BSN, 2019 Fall Start!!!

Published

It was the last day to do it, but I OFFICIALLY SUBMITTED MY APPLICATION TO OHSU!!!! ?

Anyone else applying for this cohort?

A little about me: I am an older, non-traditional student, single Mama with 8 and 13 year old boys! I currently hold a BA in Psych. I wanted to apply to the ABSN, however, my Statistics class is over 7 years old, and it was also a C. ? I will just have to retake it, if I end up needing to apply next year. This is also my very first application cycle. ?

I feel like OHSU is definitely my top choice, but I will also be applying to Linfield, and possibly Concordia (only because they have an accelerated program, and seem to offer more start dates.

Now the waiting begins!!!! ? ?

Dang, I didn't receive a Portland interview invite :( Congrats to everyone who did! 3.29 overall GPA, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I had all prereq's completed including chemistry, a previous Bachelor's degree, and about 1,200 hours of healthcare experience.

You're totally right! Congrats again!

Also. I volunteer at OHSU. And have given lectures/panel questions to the school of nursing and school of medicine.

I also just got my invite from Portland!

I was curious if anyone received mock interview information or an interview packet like some of the other campuses?

I received an interview invite from Portland campus, as well!!! A little after 3pm. I could NOT believe it!! I was sitting next to my Grandmother, and I gasped in shock... I then sat there for a good minute or so with my jaw to the ground. She was like “What? What is it? Are you okay?” ? I honestly was so so surprised. Guys, never, EVER, give up!! I have come up against some major adversity in my life, when it would have been sooooo easy to give up. I have had to work my *** off to get here... which is why I was half expecting not to get an invite this year, and have to try again next time. I broke down in tears because I have worked so damn hard... it just felt good to get that validation. Even if I don’t get in once all is said and done, I have a fighting chance, and all I have done is bout for not for naught!

I have FAILED classes. I have had to retake them. It has been years. If this is truly your passion... Do. Not. Give. Up. Allow time for growth, reflection, and building your strength and character. You will not be the same person who applies next time. ?

I will say this. The minimum is a 3.0 they look at everything all together. For me. I have all my prereqs done, I have chemistry done, I have an associates degree and soon to have a bachelors of science in public health, I have 10,000+ hours of healthcare experience, I also have lived experience as a marginalized population of people, I’m an Oregon resident, and they look at essays

GPA is not the all decider.

I agree with what Liamd said, they really look at the whole person. I have all prereq's done, chemistry completed, associates degree, 2 years CNA experience, and a story to tell. They also like to see your involvement in the community. My gpa is 3.7, but again this is just one aspect of my application. So don't get caught up in the numbers, although your gpa is important, its not everything.

Best of luck!

There was an attachment to the email but i wasn't able to open it. Other than that no packet or mock interview for me.

From my understanding, Portland doesn’t do mock interviews? But I could be wrong.

For those going to Portland... what day and time did you get? I have a feeling there is more than one...

Did they send you the interview prep packet? They sent me a whole information packet via email with questions you should practice and how to dress and what not to do.

Just sent you a PM! ;)
