OHSU 3 Year BSN, 2019 Fall Start!!!

Published

It was the last day to do it, but I OFFICIALLY SUBMITTED MY APPLICATION TO OHSU!!!! ?

Anyone else applying for this cohort?

A little about me: I am an older, non-traditional student, single Mama with 8 and 13 year old boys! I currently hold a BA in Psych. I wanted to apply to the ABSN, however, my Statistics class is over 7 years old, and it was also a C. ? I will just have to retake it, if I end up needing to apply next year. This is also my very first application cycle. ?

I feel like OHSU is definitely my top choice, but I will also be applying to Linfield, and possibly Concordia (only because they have an accelerated program, and seem to offer more start dates.

Now the waiting begins!!!! ? ?

How'd you feel about the interview?

I felt like it went well. I loved the format of meeting faculty individually. I thought it seemed well balanced and extremely fair! My first question was the hardest one I had and I fumbled through it a little bit. And my essay didn’t seem like anything special. But I thought the other 3 questions went well. How do you feel?

Anyone else hear from Ashland?

Also, do you think we (from other campuses) are able to do any clinical rotations at the Portland campus? I would be interested to experience learning in a large regional hospital in addition to Southern Oregon.

And, do you know if they incorporate maternal health, med surge, psych, etc. together in clinicals or do they each have their own unit? Most schools I’ve looked at have their own clinical for each topic but 5 week chunks instead of an entire quarter. Maybe some questions for faculty but figured I’d throw it out here too.

I can only speak for the Monmouth campus, but we do not have any clinical opportunities in Portland. All of our clinical placements are relatively local. I think some of it has to do with the number of students in Portland who also need placements, they are obviously given preference and therefore there are not a ton of "extra" spots for students from other campuses.

As for clinicals you are generally placed on one unit or location for the duration of the term. Through clinical placements you have the opportunity to experience a wide variety of clinical settings including those in the hospital, community placements, mental health, and end of life.

Yes ?? I’m so nervous. I’m hoping we get a quicker response than they told us like Ashland, but we’ll see.

I felt the same way about my essay. I had a hard time thinking of anything to say that would set me apart from others. It was almost too straightforward

I felt pretty good leaving the interview and the question seemed to be pretty common sense. I've been replaying it in my head for the last week analyzing it though. So who knows! HA!

I hope we hear back early!!
