U.S.A. Oregon

Hi Everyone!Thought I'd start a thread for those of us applying to OHSU Ashland or RCC for Fall 2014 entry. Where is everyone at in the process? I just completely finished and submitted my OHSU application. I'm almost done with my RCC application. A little about me:I've been married for almost seven years. We have three kids and I'm 30 years old. I have a bachelors degree from SOU and have all my pre-requisites and co-requisites completed. Just crossing my fingers that this will finally be my turn. I'm so anxious to start my dream career!

How weird!! I'm so nervous now. But at least well be there together haha yay! Congrats!

It will be nice to "see" a familiar face! I'm so glad we are in this together. Are you going to the mock interview on Monday?

I just got out of clinical and checked my email and I was offered an interview, too! Mine is also 4/5 at 12:30. I REALLY hope it's not a group interview...those suck!! Congrats to you two, though! I have so many emotions right now, I don't know what to think!!

I didn't know about the mock interview. But I work all day Monday so I wouldn't be able to :-/ are you going?

Yeah that makes me nervous too. It's so cool that we all got interviews though! At the same date/time too. How weird!

I hope this posts, because the mobile site is being weird for some reason. It won't let me quote and the formatting is off. Strange!

Anyhow, congrats ShannaRenee!!! I was getting a bit worried when we hadn't heard from you in a while. I'm so excited we all get to interview.

I may be the only nut job out of all of us, but I'm a much better face to face communicator. I'm not a fan of selling myself through written word. So, I'm actually looking forward to the change in the admissions process. Hello extrovert. Haha!

I'm headed to Medford to look for an interview outfit. Is it bad that I'm probably going to wear the same thing on Monday, that I will be wearing to the actual interview? I feel silly, but don't think I can afford two different outfits.... Oh well. Just excited to be able to participate in this process. I can't wait!!! This could really be happening for us. Eeeekkkkk.

My my formal first name is Christina, but I go by Joy. (Long story, I'll save for another day). I am hoping to meet you lovely ladies soon!

I didn't get notification of the mock interview either, Summer. When I checked, there were only 45 "spots" available for those, and they were full. Boo...

That's strange about the mock interviews. Now that the emails have gone out, maybe some people will drop if they didn't make it to the next round? Maybe call and see if you can show up and slide into someone else's spot if they are a no show?

I don't think it's bad to wear the same thing to mock interview, will they even be the same people? Are they just showing you how it'll be? Maybe if you don't mind, we can all get together beforehand and help each other out. It'd be amazing of we all got in now that we've been through so much together already :) I wish I were as confident as you with the interview. I've finished my writing series with As and always considered myself a better writer since I get such anxiety when put on the spot. Especially since it'll be a group interview, and I'm just not used to that. Do you guys have a lot of volunteer experience?

I would love to get together! I always think it is best to help one another. I don't like to view others as competition. Instead, I would like to think we all bring something unique to the table. As long as we are being ourselves we can't go wrong. At the end of the day, if I've been true to myself and am not selected, then they weren't looking for me. Does that make sense?

As far as the actual interview, I think it may be a panel style. I'm just guessing though. In those, the group shows up at the same time and they call you in one at a time to interview with a panel of five or so people. I could be completely wrong, but it would make the most sense to me. I used to do recruiting and that's what we would do.

You will do awesome! Just think of it as a conversation with five of your closest friends who share your same enthusiasm about nursing. How cool is that?! Approach it that way and they will see your passion for the program. :)

I dont have any medical experience, but have 6 years of volunteer experience with nationally recognized drug prevention programs.

I completely agree, I know technically you are both my competition, but I really want us all in it together now! A panel interview would make sense. I'm nervous about the fact they ask about volunteer stuff. It's obvious important tegu want people that help others, and I feel I'm going to come off arrogant or selfish if I tell them that I just don't have a ton of extra time to volunteer much since I work full time in urgent care, go to school at night, and have a 2 year old at home. At least we have a few weeks to practice :)

I had no idea they ask about volunteer stuff! I don't think you sound selfish at all. :) I think it sounds like you know how to prioritize your life and what's important. That is a great skill to have. There's no way I could volunteer right now. If I hadn't earlier in life, I would be in the same boat.

I have a lot of volunteer experience in the past, but do you really think they'll consider it if it wasn't within the past few years? I'm a single mom of two, and I worked full-time until I started school full-time...there just aren't enough hours in the day!! I do fine in interviews, but I get ridiculously nervous right up until I sit down in the room. This whole timing thing baffles me, though. Why were we all given the same time? It seems highly unlikely that they would do massive group interviews (I'm sure many more have the same date/time as we do). I envisioned a panel of interviewers speaking with one applicant at a time, but if that's the case, why wouldn't they schedule us 20-30 minutes apart?? I wish we knew how many applicants they were interviewing. I'm also wondering how they divided us up between the 5th and the 19th... Alphabetically? Likelihood? If you can't tell already, I'm an over-thinker! ;)
