Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

A's are achievable if you are willing to put forth the time and energy required. Definitely not a program where you can just coast through. They pack a lot of info into these 5wk programs, so you have to be pretty organized and self motivated to make it work. I will say that once you get a hang of what's expected, the management of the classes, gets a bit easier. They recently changed the grading system in Jun, so now anything lower than a B- in nursing courses needs to be redone. And in some classes, lower than a 82% is considered a B-.

You need a B- just to pass????? Well THAT's concerning!!! Now I feel more pressure........not good at all!

My grades are in for Management!!! Yahoooo!!!! pulled an A on that one!!

Now just waiting for Community Health -- glad that one is over!!

3 nursing classes down!!

:yeah: Mine are posted also ... gotta love an A!! 2 down and 9 to go!!

Yep....They changed the grading policy in Jun 11.

Hello everyone. I am taking statistics in the first half of Fall quarter. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions or advice about the class. I also wanted to see if anyone had Karadogan as an instructer and what you thought about him.

These instructors are all so different. I had Lassiter. He was great and graded fairly. Gave us a syllabus before class started and encouraged students to get a head start. Do you have the syllabus? Have you logged into blackboard to see if modules are posted? If so start doing assignments now. We had to do 2 proctored test. And assignments due weekly. There is a stats message board I found to be helpful. Also my instructor provided a supplementary exercises.

Good Luck!!

Where did you take your proctored tests and how did that work? I did not realize I had to log into Blackboard to see the class, but I will. Thank you for the reply.

In the statistics class did you use both the books that are required? Where does everyone get their books? I ran across bookrenter and chegg.com. Thank you :)

Amazon usually - try to buy used if I can find the right edition. Had no luck on Ebay so far - but that is another option.

I both books off of Ebay. Lately I've been renting them. But if I find cheaper buying, I just buy. I took my proctored test at U of CIncy. Just call around your local University/Schools to see if they offer proctored sites. You need to do this early b/c OU sends your exams to them. "BUT" your instructor may not require proctored exams.

Yep. All non-nursing class are on blackboard. Some instructors post there before class officially starts.

And yes, you use both books. So definitely make sure to get them both.
