Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.
I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.
As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.
As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.
I took STATS at the beginning of the year. VERY time consuming!!! I really liked it because it was a break from nursing, BUT we had two homework assignments due each week! We also had 2 exams that were proctored. If you can do it I would recommend taking an EASY elective with this course. Good Luck!
Krey...I totally agree w//everything you said. Did you instructor give you the syllabus and homework assignments in advance? Mine gave it to us before class officially started and STRONGLY encouraged us to get ahead. Said NO TA would be able to answer questions about homework prior to class starting, but said getting ahead was a good idea. When the class started I was on HW #6. I think that's what helped me not get too stressed out in this class. Always felt like I was a step ahead...
My health objective was cancer. I take business communication this winter quarter along with Legal/Ethical Issues the first 5 weeks and then Nursing Research the second 5 weeks. I just hope business comp. isn't too time consuming of a class. I start a new job working nights in two weeks. I know I can handle the NRSE class but don't want to be bogged down with a ton of lengthy, mind numbing papers in Business Comp. because I HATE writing papers. My instructor is "Professor F" so guess I will have to wait and see how it goes! Glad to hear that business comp. was your favorite class, knowing that helps.
For business comp you write a journal a week. Personal thoughts about a particular topic posted. Doesn't have to be referenced. Doesn't have to be a particular length. In addition to the journal, you may have to write a Memo (about another topic). Memo is more formal. Must be reference. But all of the topics are relevant. (Communication style, stress, bigotry, etc). Then one week you have a case study and life experience letter). Big assignment is basically a recap on what you've learned in the class.
Since the topics are so relevant, you really don't have to take a lot of time research what you want to say. I would typically just write a rough draft, then find articles to support what I said. The quizzes that are every week are not timed, so you can take as long as you want to complete.
My bus com professor was Prof P. She had a lot of supplementary videos/papers that students could look at to get a better idea of how to write and reference paper.
I hope you enjoy this class as much as I did.

Yes, our professor was great. We were able to work ahead and that helped tremendously! I was so nervous about taking this class becuase I was never good with math, but plugged away and got it done. I really don't think I could've taken a nursing class with STATS though. Honestly I don't think I could've taken another class with STATS.
I've still got community (341), legal/ethical (335), research (405) and capstone (455) along with 4 electives. Trying to get this all done before the semester switch. I will be taking fashion and culture with 335 in January. This will be the first time taking 2 classes together so I'm a bit nervous. I actually will be taking 2 classes togehter until I finish.
