I graduated on June 25th 2009 from LPN school, I sent my application for licensure, and fees and my pearson vue fee on 5/4/09, board recieved it on 5/5/09.
They recieved my letter of completion from my school by certifed mail on June 29th,09.
I am starting to get really P.O.'d I have done my part which was send my application in a TIMELY manner, and so far they have not done their part, it was waaay longer than 30 days before my name appeared as "pending", which wasn't until june 22, 09. Mind you they received my app on may 5th!!
Now I have graduated and still no ATT, the website said 14 days from the time your name appeared as pending. I keep calling and emailing and I can't get through. Noone calls or emails you back!! All I want to know is if something is wrong or what is going on with my application. I really need to get licensed, because my background check expires on july 9th (tommorrow) I don't even know if i'll have to get a new one at this point. I also have an amazing job waiting for me but I can't even tell them when I'll be able to take the test!! I am so angry and anxious. My anxiety level is through the roof,
I just need to talk to a human being. It's not fair that I have done what is required of me, and they can't meet their obligations.Like as I am typing I have called the BON at least 50 time- literally- trying to get through, I send an email at least every other day!! I'm just so confused as to what I should do. I would just go to their office if I was able to but I am not in Columbus. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do, or is in a similar situation? Does anyone know if it will matter that my background check expires tommorrow, I was told that it may not matter since my name is already pending, I am DREADING having to get another one which will further delay me getting licensed. If that happens , I will turn around and it will be Christmas and still no ATT!! If this keeps up I will be homeless by the time I get licensed. I have been broker than I ever have in my life this school year and I am so ready to work!! Sorry for the loong rant but I don't know what to do, Im so worried. I could just bawl my eyes out right now.
Please alert your elected state representatives and senators about the UNDERSTAFFED nursing licensure unit: how it prevents graduates from taking licensure exams, delay in staring accepted nursing position, and request to see if they can have discussion with nursing board, investigate issue and resolve staffing crisis.
Solving constituents issues with state government is reason Representatives exist. :)
Thanks Karen, I will definitely do that! The OBON received my paperwork on 6/29. My name finally showed up on the board website on 8/12. Today is day #13 and still NO ATT or info saying my app was incomplete. I can't get through to the board because they don't even give the option to leave a message! I called Pearson Vue and they gave me the number for the National Office for the state BON's in Illinois. It is 1-312-525-3600. If I don't have my ATT Friday (tomorrow), I am calling this number on Monday. I may just go to Columbus myself on Monday so I can talk to a REAL person! The board has NO rhyme or reason to how they process these apps. Classmates who submitted paperwork in July had their name show up on the board website in less than 3 weeks! Others who sent their mail in my certified mail had students who sent their paperwork in 2 weeks later get their ATT first. This is ridiculous! How can the board not have known there would be so many applicants when we had to submit our fingerprints to the STATE for NURSING school? Hello!
I graduated June 11th. I sent everything in on June 15th. I didn't get my ATT till Aug 19th. Way to long. I spoke to Karen at BON and she was very nice, considering what she is up against! You would think that the BON would have had the foresight to hire a few people to help ease the crunch! I was told this was the first time with the June grads background checks were necessary, which is what has slowed the process up. I have a friend that graduated with me and she went to Tenn. She took the NCLEX in July! (Passed!!) If I had known, I would have done the same!!!
I have scheduled my exam for Sept 16th. However, I will push it out a week or two if I don't feel prepared. This has been a very stressful Summer. My husband was unemployed from April till last week, Aug 19th. I have been spending the Summer studying and looking for a job. I agree with meloveGL, no one will consider looking at us w/o a license. Can't blame them. They are probably swamped with applications that have their license!
What bothers me even more is the fact that all the local hospitals have hiring freezes. We will be relocating to a larger community where my husband is working. There are several hospitals but the RN positions are few. 90% of them require experience->2 yrs or specalization. With over 7000 grads in Ohio, and hiring freezes where are we supposted to get jobs??? Yes, a precentage of the grads will move out of state and a precentage will not pass the NCLEX or enter the workforce right away. I am supposted to start paying back my student loan in Dec. I hope I have a job before then! I will work in a nursing home or home health setting if need be, but I really want to get a couple of years of Med-Surg under my belt so that I will be more competent and experienced, for the sake of the patients!!
When I entered college five years ago, everyone was screaming for nurses, offering sign-on bonuses, etc., and the outlook was great! Since 2008, that has totally flipped. It is disheartening and discouraging!!
I also am thinking of getting another career besides nursing. This is my second degree. The problem is, jobs are so few right now....there really are no other careers! Have I wasted 5 years and gotten myself into a big debt for nothing??? Yes, depression has start to set in!
Good Luck to everyone on the NCLEX!!!! May we all pass the FIRST TIME!!
Blessings
I graduated in december... on the 12th. I wasn't able to take my licensing test until march 10th. The reason, My school took a month to send in my grades. Than they have to review to approve. Most of my classmates were in the same boat. I was lucky however to find out in 2 days, and I accepted a job the same day.
i am getting ready to graduate from lpn school on sept 20th and my teacher told us that we cant even expect them to start processing my app until they receive my records saying that i have graduated adn then from there it is a 45 day wait bc they are so backed up right now. it sucks but i guess there is not much we can do. they are the ones that are in control.
amasher84- you probably will be waiting for a while. it took o.b.o.n exactly 45 business days to get my classs our att's. we graduated 6-23. we were pending on the web site on 8-12. i paid my 200.00 in 8-14 and finally got our att's on 9-1. let me tell you, its been hell waiting for all this to go through. i now have my nclex scheduled for 9-29. all this waiting an now i feel like i've done forgot everything i studied for for the past 2 yrs. the waiting is absolutely rediculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good luck to you and congrats on graduating.
im sitting here reading your comments and i have became very dissappointed in all of you im a new grad and i know its a pain to wait but the day you registered you should have been told that it can be anywhere from 21 days to 3 months before you sit for your boards you guys are sitting here putting people down for doing there job well all i can say to all of you as a nurse there will be a day when someone dont like how you do your job and then you will know how they feel use this extra time to study be positive think how many people are nursing grads per year and probally a hand full of people trying to schdule dates for all these people to sit for boards i dont know about you but i wouldnt want just anyone slippping through a crack and being the one taking care of my family take a little time and think about your comments and then think about all the negative things you have said then ask yourself if you really belong in this field because patients is the number one thing you will have to have to deal with people like yourself and i know waiting sucks but its part of it so get over it or you will never even get a chance for sucess and that would be a shame after all the time you spent right now you all are being very unethical apply your nursing to your personality become someone right now your off starting bad that just shows the community what kind of people will be taking care of them:argue:
wow, you must be "super nurse" or something. you act as if youve never gotten a bit flustered before. thats something they should teach in school, 'how not to become flustered in the nursing field'. i can't count how many lpn's, rn's, d.o.n.'s, administrator's and especially stna's that i've seen, get a little flustered at times. i've been in the nursing field for 14 yrs and i've never seen anyone not get flustered. as for b.o.n. doin their jobs, i agree, they are doin their jobs but they also know that at certain times schools will be graduating lots of nurses so why not increase the employees so that the paper work can get done just a little bit quicker. it only makes sense, but then of course when things make sense to people it never gets done anyways so whatever i guess.
im not perfect nor am i trying to make people angry i have been in the field for a long time and i have seen people get very angry but i have also seen what the outcome is when people find out it always ends up bad people use it against you i was trying to help i guess you have to learn from your own mistakes i know that no one could tell me anything and me hear them but i had to see it for myself thats what it took you have a right to be frustrated but i just dont see why you want to make it public on a sight that everyone could view its not making things go any quicker try to relax and be happy for what you have your time will come and when its does it will be one of the best days of your life if you let it but if your already frustrated its going to build up and put walls up for you and you wont even enjoy that day when it gets here and is that not what you spent all your time working for sorry if i upset you but sometimes we all need a reminder to keep our eye on the prize:confused:
I graduated june 29th and didnt know I was supposed to pay Pearson view till august fourth. I payed them and got my att on Sept 11 and took my boards october 1st. It does suck that they don't answer the phone or return messages. I don't know why yours has taken so long, I thought I waited for ever, you have me beat. That really sucks I hope you get it soon!!
