how often do you study?

Published

how often or how long do you spend studying or doing school work a day? and what grades are you making? i just want to see how often and how long everyone studies.

I've got a B. I study about 7-10 hours a week + 6 hours lecture and 9 of clinical/lab, plus 3 hours of pre-planning and finalizing my paperwork after clinical, unless it's the weekend before a test, then I don't look at anything Friday after lecture, but Sat and Sun, I'm studying one hour, then a 1/2 to 1 hour off, study for an hour, etc, so on & so on all day. I set a timer ( I have ADD)

I study 24-32 hours per week... and I have it all broken out, hour by hour to keep me on track. I currently have a high B average 88.5 (I made an 80 on one test and now I cant get my grade up to an A)

I study an hour or two every day, that may include doing work or just studying. Our tests are always on monday mornings so the weekends before tests I usually study a little more and Im making high A's and one high B (89).

I study at the very least 20 hrs a week and so far I have A's in all my classes. But I don't work and I don't have any other distractions.

i study religiously everyday from 3-5 hours, pays off since i'm at the top of my class. i also have a toddler so timing can be tricky, but i always make it work, no exceptions.

Guys, I am a bit worried here. I want to know if I'm normal or if something's wrong with me. Please don't get angry with me like the rest of my friends and fellow classmates have. I am HONESTLY going to tell you that it's my first semester of nursing school, it's a ROUGH program, we've already had around 10 or so people drop out/get the boot, so I know it must be a bit difficult. I'm really confused about this. All of my friends say they study HOURS every week. I am taking the maximum load a full-time student is allowed to take, AND I'm taking it with Anatomy. I have As in all my classes, including my 6 hour Nursing class. I never study. What is wrong with me?! For example, the last test we took was particularly difficult. I didn't study any until two days before the test. I studied around 2 hours that day and 2 the next, totaling 4 hours of studying for a 100 question test. I studied even less for the test before that. I have made As on them. My classmates are always like, "we don't believe you. we know you must be a closet nerd who sits around doing nothing but studying. you're lying. how long did you seriously study, because WE studied for X amount of hours and only got X grade and barely passed. how are you doing this?" my answer is: I DON'T KNOW. For this last test, I studied with 2 of my best friends from the class. We each studied the same exact amount of time, since we were together for it - 4 hours for the test. I made an A, the other made a B, and the other made a C (which is technically failing in our program). The one that made a B won't speak to me anymore, and I have no idea why, and the one that made a C is thinking of quitting the program all together. I'm trying to encourage them and tell them I'll study with them more, but it's not helping. I'm just worried that next semester will roll around and I'll be used to not studying, which will cause me to fail. It's just like I really understand everything and kinda grasp the material -- like maybe I was born for it. Now I've lost a best friend all because of my test grade. :(

180,

sorry to hear about losing your friend. well, i'm sure it will get tougher especially when you're going to get into med-surge ii, have you been studying or reading, rather, what will be on the nclex? just something for you to think about. good luck.

I average about 30 hours a week. Usually 4-5 hours almost every day of the week. Class is done at noon, I run, eat a quick lunch and study until 6 or 7.

And I always have flashcards in my pocket to study when I have a few minutes - waiting in lines, at work.....

It's all paying off. My grades are good and I feel like I'm really learning (as opposed to the info you test prep for and then forget).

Hey that is great that you don't have to study much. I did not have the study much first and second semesters and got A's so when it came to the third semester I ended up failing one of my M/S classes with a C-. Totally my fault, when I wasn't doing well after the first test I should have kicked up the studying. Now a year later I am repeating the course and doing fine. I just want you to know what happened to me, and that not studying now might work for you. but be careful.

That's one of the big secrets to it: grab random minutes whenever you can. Don't wait for a 3-4 hour block of time to present itself before you open a book, because the odds are good that you won't get it, or you will be interrupted 20 minutes into it :)

I study far too much, mostly in those random minutes since I have a young child at home, and I don't think I've seen a free weekend since I started the program. I also have all As, though this current class might be the one that puts an end to that :)

I study for maybe an hour a day and a max of 3 hours total for a test. My classmates talk crap behind by back because of this, even though it works for me and I get good grades. Very irritating! Not everyone has to study constantly, and some people do, its whatever works for you personally and it takes some time to figgure out what that is.
