Congrats to everyone who made it in!! Looks like some of us will be meeting tomorrow, June 25th @ 7p at the Brass Tap up at Wiregrass Mall in Wesley Chapel. Anyone is welcome to come celebrate and have a drink! We deserve it!!!

Nothing done yet - no physical, no uniforms, no CPR nothing!!! Anyone want to do CPR together if possible?? Also, who wants to help me get together ~$1500 in the next 6w so I can pay for classes, books and the first month of $600/mo daycare?? Ahhhhhh!!!
For people with health insurance: many insurance policies cover routing vaccines like MMR, Polio, Tetorifice, Hepatitis and PPD (to name a few). I would call your insurance company and ask if you have it covered under your plan. Sometimes, even titers are covered.
If you don't have health insurance, I would just go to the county public health clinics because the titers are usually less than $20 and, depending on the vaccine, can be from $40 to $100+. I would definitely try the titers first because for public school you had to have your MMRs and Hep B in most counties. Best of luck to you guys on your quest for shots! I am waiting until my packet comes in the mail because the physical has to be written on the paper included in the packet. I will just make an appointment with my family doctor and they can do the titers and whatnot there. :)
I am excited about being on East campus... I don't know my way around at all though
Here's the link to the physical form (it's mentioned in the Nursing Student packet) for year one students:
http://phcc.edu/forms/SAR-40A.pdf
The website for the background check is in the packet too. I think it's CertifiedBackground.com - Background Screening and Drug Testing Solutions
the initial check is $64 and any rechecks are $49.
Adds up, doesn't it?
To everyone on the East Campus this fall (Lutz, Wesley Chapel, and other East Pasco residents)...does anyone know anything about our upcoming professors (not allowed to name them)? I also did some research on the two clinical sites used and they look pretty impressive. If you're on East Campus, add me as a friend so we can start seeing who we'll be in class and clinicals with over the next two years. Also, any recommendations on watch brands or stethoscopes? I've been advised to try a medical supply/uniform shop but can't locate any in this area (Lutz). Already got some MBT's from the Walking Company at Wiregrass. Can't wait to meet everyone and get this orientation packet tomorrow!!
I was discouraged to get mine personalized/engraved with my name or other identifying information - mostly because of patients (stalking, etc.).
I make jewelry and have done some stethoscope charms, but those are fairly easily removed (but cute!). I was also shown a way to tether your stethoscope with a retractable badge holder device, so it's nearly impossible to just lay it down and walk away. Mine's pretty distinctive, but high end, so I'd consider engraving it some place discreet.
I'll be interested in what others think, or have heard.
I have ordered my stethoscope and did do the personalization; I just did first and middle initials and last name. Also, I had it engraved on the head?? rather than tubing...
I am Soo very excited to meet everyone and get going with classes! I live in Spring Hill, so I am thinking West Campus would be preferable to Dade City. I have never been to Dade City's campus but my DH says it's is about the same distance. Drive time is going to be significant so I was thinking maybe I could work out some sort of car pooling eventually if anyone's game?
Any who!
Congrats to the candidates who just received their letters!
I do have a question, will everyone be working part-time through the program? some student loans?
I have a full time job that I am resigning from to attend classes, but I am probably going to try for waitressing part-time throughout program.
Again, I am very anxious and excited to begin this new chapter!
I didn't get either personalized because if I get married in the next couple of years I don't want to have my maiden name on there. If your name is going to stay the same I would do it.[/quote']Also, if the opposite happens...potential awkwardness! lol--j/k a little :)
I am getting divorced and keeping my married name--I have 3 kids with the same last name and have ZERO plans to "put a ring on it" ever again...lol...(well, okay, I may let some deserving candidate present me with a nice ring but I ain't walking down the aisle!!lol)
I may have the tubing monogrammed with my first and middle initials and last name. Stalking? Like whack patients can't get our names off of our name tags?

Yup! My major was changed to Nursing on Monday afternoon because I hand delivered my acceptance letter Monday morning.
