Applied for RN and day LPN; accepted into day LPN

TEAS 88.2

Pre-Req GPA 3.4

Nothing done yet - no physical, no uniforms, no CPR nothing!!! Anyone want to do CPR together if possible?? Also, who wants to help me get together ~$1500 in the next 6w so I can pay for classes, books and the first month of $600/mo daycare?? :crying2: Ahhhhhh!!!

I stopped over to Building M this afternoon...and I think they're getting tired of us all asking "what campus"! I talked to S.Y. and she all but refused to look it up, instead saying that based on my address, I would normally go to West, but since there were more West-address candidates that East-address candidates, they are going to have to shift things around.

She mentioned drawing names. When pressed about "when", she said maybe we'd know by orientation or maybe they'd do it at orientation - she kind of looked like she was saying it as she was coming up with it! So, if East has 10 seats open, they'd put all the West names in a hat and pull 10 names and those 10 would then be assigned to East. I think it would save some time if those who were flexible could just volunteer up front to go to East, then maybe do a lottery. Like everyone else here, I'm much closer to West and have family obligations as well. And to that S.Y. said "you and everyone else are in the same boat".

Mentally preparing to suck-it-up, just in case! I've got this far, I'm certainly not going to lose my seat over extra time, miles and short-term (relatively speaking) inconveniences.

Oh, and the bookstore at West was closed for inventory today! I was hoping to pick up a couple patches...to stare at and let it sink in. Uniforms, etc will come closer to the start of school, unfortunately.

COUPON ALERT :)

Beall's has an additional 15% off for FL residents every Thursday this summer through Sept 2. There are very few exclusions. Just show your FL driver license!

I just grabbed the shoes I want (hope they pass muster, all white leather walking shoes by Skechers) for $38 out the door. They normally cost $60 pre-tax. :yeah:

Nice!

Oh, and the Tax Free Weekend this year is August 13- 15 on:

Books, clothing, and footwear ($50 or less)

School supplies ($10 or less)

May help a little, since we're waiting anyway.

OK guys...need feedback/help. I don't want to pull the trigger too quick here, but I'm thinking about getting the $70 Littmann Stethoscope on allheart.com. It is the basic dual side (which we'll surely need), stainless (not plastic), and is up there on the top-sellers. I'm also adding two pairs of the stainless fabric scissors, but can NOT find any watches with the continual rotating hand. Anyone found a store or website I can order one from that is durable and not too pricey?? I'm also going to buy my scrubs in person, not off a site (so to get the right style, size, and price). Thanks for the suggestions of Uniform City and the store in Univ. Mall. And finally, in the event my shot records won't suffice, I'm shopping for the most affordable MMRV Titer draw and TB skin test locations. I read on here Pasco County Health Dept. is good...and they are ($75 for all). Any other suggestions or tips...I'm all ears! Thanks!

I got the Littmann you're talking about (Littmann Classic S.E. II) from eBay for about $72, shipping included. That is the best price I've found, so far. I'm thinking I'm going to get the other supplies in a uniform store because shipping will make it cost the same amount, in the end. If you find out some info about the titers, keep us updated!

Hey guys!

I noticed that everyone is getting ready with their supplies and such, and how do you guys know what we need? Color, style, etc.... can someone let me know? Thanks so much in advance. I really want to start prepping for August, instead of going into debt at the school store ;)

Well there was a current RN student who posted on here about what is allowed. I think it's under the other two PHCC threads, if you read through her name is sam, something or other. Basically, white shoes, the specific white Landau scrub top in the bookstore, white "uniform" pants (no draw string scrub pants, still kinda fuzzy on this), a watch with a second hand, a stethoscope of any color, bandage scissors, BP cuff... ummm I know there is more but my brain is fried :) Hope that helps!

Those prices make me wonder what type of quality the stethoscopes at the bookstores are like. They are $18 at PHCC. The basic dual-sided littmann is about $70. Hope it's ok I ordered a black banded one (don't see why it wouldn't be). As for watches, I will try walmart in the morning. I really don't wanna buy a nice watch and risk losing or breaking it halfway in the program. Once the bookstore reopens, I'll also get some patches to have sewn onto scrubs (much later of course). I hear you have to ask for them.

Thanks a lot! If you could post the links to those threads that would be awesome :)

I want to get the ball rolling on this, because I am trying to avoid blowing all of my Pell (plus more) on all of the necessities. I would much rather come out of pocket now, then to come out more later on down the line. I wish a supply list was sent out with our acceptance letters, because it is a HUGE cost--especially for us single moms :(

Thanks again!

Tunic top Landau 8058 white

Landau pants 8320 (sold at the store, I called to get the style number) white

2 Student nurse patches per tunic (sold at the bookstore)

Good quality stethoscope, such as Litmman Classic 11 SE (which is what I think we will find most of us are buying)

Shoes, all white, leather, quality walking shoes or NURSEMATES!

Wristwatch with sweeping second hand (basically any watch with a second hand, I think...lol)

What did I miss?

Info obtained from the Student Nurse Handbook and by MAD detective skillz (um, so, I called the bookstore...plus an awesome current nursing student filled us in on some details)

HTH!

The patches are behind the counter, you do have to ask for them. The ones they sell there are AWFUL from what I've seen. They make some really cheap stethoscopes that don't let you hear a thing. And black should be fine, mine is going to be orange!
